Length

Where do you measure from to determine the length of a 5th wheel? Do you measure from the hitch pen to the rear bumper or from the very front of the trailer to the rear bumper?

Thanks

miker, Howdy;

Any time I talk Length it's generally the FULL length.
That's how much space it's going to take-up in a camp site...

Welcome miker!

The exterior length is measured from the center of the kingpin to the rear, including the bumper
(or bumper 'area' if shaped/molded vs tubular bumper).

The length listed by manufacturers typically does not include a rear ladder, or a bumper mounted
spare. Some manufacturers include the length of an extended pin box, but others don't.

Example: our 265RL is listed as 30 ft long... the actual length is 32 ft, from the king pin
(including the extended pin box) to the rear (including the spare).

We reserve a campsite at 32 ft minimum.

Hope that helps,
Terri, the co-pilot

KanTC, Howdy;

My 278 RK measures 30 feet from rear bumper to the furthest point on the nose (no I didn't measure the spare hangin on back there). I have the regular pinbox which is about a foot shorter (it's behind the winter skirting).
Granted a foot is not going to kill anyone or thing in this instance. So, when asked how long is my RV I say 30 feet long.

Now with TT's you can have 2 answers. Overall length and living space.
Overall is usually 4 feet longer due to the 'A' frame for the toungue. My last trailer was a 26 footer but measured 30 feet overall...

I opt. for the overall length when hunting for a place to park it for any amount of time...
