Solar with Generator?

We just ordered a 2024 Cougar 25mle with the 660 solar package. I understand that the 270 amp hour lithium can only do so much even with soft starts on the ac. I am curious as to how much generator I should carry and do I need a 50 amp adapter? Eg. would a small Honda be sufficient to keep the battery topped off as I operate via the inverter?

Most campgrounds can accept your 50 Amp. plug but I carry a 30/50 amp. adapter just in case. If you install a Soft Start in your AC you should be fine with a 2000 watt generator. The Honda's are nice but very pricey. I bought two Wen 2000 watt generators for less than one Honda costs. The reason I bought two was before I installed the Soft Start.
And welcome to the forum.

I also have a Honda 2200 to charge up the batteries on cloudy days. If the converter is working as it should, the generator will charge up your batteries nicely. You will need an adapter to plug your 50 amp cord into the generator. Shop them on Amazon, you can find a specific adapter to plug right into your generator.

A small generator will work nicely to augment the solar capacity in recharging the batteries. There are cord adapters readily available to allow connection of a 50A cord to a small generator.

If you intend to use your AC off the inverter system, I would suggest doing a little more research on the subject and educating yourself to differentiate between reality and marketing hype so that you have realistic expectations of what the system can and cannot/will not do.

To put it plainly, even if you get the A/C running on battery alone, you'll only get a couple hours of A/C tops before they're drained completely with 270 amp hours. That's not to say that 270 isn't a lot of capacity. Rather, it's just that running A/C on a standard lithium battery setup is not at all common or advised.
