2013 Alpine 3535RE

I have a 2013 Alpine 3535RE. First Towmax blowout at the end of last season. Fortunately, not much damage. I am seriously thinking about replacing tires and wheels with 17.5 inch wheels and tires. Any advice? Will they fit? Are the rime 8 on 6.5 inch? Brands? Big investment but I think the peace of mind will be worth it. Thanks for any comments

Shop around. You can get better deals by buying the assemblies at the same retailer. Surprisingly, the 17.5" assemblies can be purchased with nearly the same overall dimensions, depending on tire size.

The 17.5" tires are in a different market - so to speak - because a lot of them are mostly commercial grade tires built for low platform trailers. IMO they will outlast any 16" trailer tire on the market today.

Ask yourself, will I travel enough miles with them to off-set the additional cost?

Another consideration is replacement on the road. Are 17.5 tires as common meaning any tire store might have one in stock?

Recently retired and I will be traveling a lot. From the Northeast to Florida, to Rockies. I really want a dependable tire. I was considering the Goodyear tires here. http://www.easternmarine.com/goodyea...rim-8-lug-lr-h They seem to be the same dimensions and price wise not too bad. Any thoughts on the goodyears?

Probably the best trailer tire of that size on the market today. Very popular with the 7000# & 8000# axles.

The Michelin is close behind but has a tendency to develop sidewall cracks which have no warranty coverage.

I may pull the trigger on them. Around $1800 shipped for five. Just need to double check size and clearance and find an installer to balance and install

Personal opinion, you do not need to go t a 17.5" set-up. There are several options that you could consider in a 235/85R16 in LRG that will provide good service for you. The 85 series tires are slightly taller than your OE tires. I've been running 85s on my Alpine for 2 years now and haven't had a problem. I stepped up to these new wheels rated for 110 psi as well.

Many people really like the Sailun tires, I decided not to use them since I like using Discount Tire and was looking for something that they would stock at most locations.

I recently put Hartland tires from Discount Tire on mine. I'm getting ready for my first big trip, about 2,500 round trip in two weeks. Hartland has 2 options, the more expensive is an all steel tire and the one I would choose. They are a very heavy tire and I'm hoping will perform well.

Goodyear G614s are also in that class of tire, but a bit pricey in my opinion.

You should be able to step up to an LRG set-up like this (tires and wheels) for around $1,300.

Notice that the Sendel wheels I have are also available in a 17.5" if that's the route you choose to go. I found mine on Amazon for $85 each with free shipping.

I would have thought your Alpine would have 8 lug axels and wheels rated to 110 PSI. If so, I'd go with a LR G rated tire as there are several good ones. I see Montana has the LR G tire option and when on the lot the wheels look the same as those without the optional tires.

I went with the Carlisle Radial Trail HD 235x85x16 LRF (@95 psi) on my 3010RE. I'm a little lighter than you but the they give me a good safety margin and I didn't need a new compressor to handle 95psi. Only one short trip on them so far but they seem to roll nicely and they look sharp. The 85s fit nicely in the wells. Good luck with your search, safe travels.

After my "China Bomb" blow out I upgraded to 17.5 tires and wheels. I now have approximately 70,000 miles on them and they look "almost" new. Yes they are 14ply and "J" rated... 62mph. They are rated at 125psi... I keep them around 115psi. As far as the "rougher ride", nothing has fallen to the floor or shaken loose when we arrive at our destination. We are retired fulltimers and have all the time in the world to get where we want to be. I drive 60mph.

They are 8 lug, but most (if not all) Alpines came with Sendel T03 wheels in 2013. They are rated at 95 psi, whch would work with Carlisle LRF tires which I ran on mine for a while. When I spoke to the rep ant Sendel, he recommended going to a heavier wheel which is why I went to the T11BM. They are rated for 110 psi or 125 psi on the 17.5" wheel. That gave me the ability to step up to an LRG tire.

Alpine is a premium coach. I spoke to a tech recently and he said the same wheels are used on the High Country (with 7000# axels not the 6000#) as the Montana. Montana has an option to upgrade to G rated tires and use the same wheels. So it looks like in 2017 Montana is only buying 1 set of wheels for all coaches with 7000# axels.

thank you One last question. When you purchased the new wheels did you buy 8 on 6.5 with 4.90 center bore and 0 offset? Before I order these online I am trying to make sure they fit properly

If your Toyo tires are M1430 Low Platform Trailer tires they are European designed and have a maximum speed rating of 62 MPH. Their service description will be 143/141J.

I made this very clear in my post on page one of this thread.... And it is also in my "signature"

You can use this site to compare tire size. For example, I entered 235/80R16and compared it to 235/75R17. It showed the diameter of 30.8 vs 30.9, basically the same size tire. Comparing 235/80R16 to 235/85R16 shows a diameter of 30.8 vs 31.7 so the 85 series tire is .9 inches taller than the 80. That would mean you would have .45" less clearance between the top of the tire and the bottom of the RV. You can use this tool to help you decide what tire you can use on your RV.

Sorry. I didn't intend to hit the glow plug switch.

In your signature you say your tires are "J" rated. It's confusing, because they are double "J" rated. One rating is for their load capacity and the other is their speed rating. That's why I did the service description, 143/141J to show the speed letter in the service description.
