I-20 Road Conditions Marshall, Texas to Jackson, Mississippi?

We are about to head out toward Jackson, picking up I-20 at Marshall. I read several older posts regarding the poor road conditions on I-20, especially around the Shreveport/Bossier City area and the Jackson area. Has anyone been through those areas lately? Is I-220 around Shreveport a better route? Thanks.

I travel that route (I20 west to east and return) often since my daughter and her family moved to FL. Shreveport and Jackson are some of the worst interstate I've driven on. Shreveport is just rough. Feels like they made the road out of concrete then all the expansion joints swelled up and made humps. You can drive it with the RV just take it easy. Probably lasts 20 miles or so.

Jackson is just rough. How a highway could be built that bad is inexplicable. Fortunately it's only about 10 miles or so. Just go slow and expect it. My first pass thru on my maiden voyage with our new 2014 Cougar High Country was brutal. I did not know about the whoop dee doos and hit them at about 63-65mph. Thought it was going to throw us out of the truck, the truck off the trailer or just send us all into orbit. I shut it down and proceeded to Mobile for the night. When we went to open up the trailer we found the bathroom sliding door had busted out the cornice, broken its hangars and was wedged behind the bedroom slide. It was due to weak hangars and a faulty installation of the door but never the less.

The return trip we just made I went from FL to Gulport MS then headed N. Decided we would just use the I20 route and be careful from now on. I don't know about the I220 route.

I think the only road that comes close to Jackson is Birmingham.
I-10 Mississippi river bridge just west of Baton Rouge ain't no picnic either.

Agreed Gearhead. The alternate route we took was thru Baton Rouge/I10. That's the reason we decided to just use I20 from now on and be careful.

There's another bad one from I-20 down to Paragon Casino at Marksville LA. Maybe LA Hwy 65.
