Magnolia, TX -Hot Springs, AR-Fall Creek Falls, T<

I have a question regarding routing from the Houston area up to Texarkana. I have driven to Tennessee numerous times for the last 12 years. I have always taken Highway 59 to Texarkana, I-30 to Little rock, I-40 through Tennessee. Goodsam and other route planning software has me going I-45 to Huntsville, TX then Highway 19 to Crocket, Rusk, Henderson, Marshall, and working my way up to I-30 in Texarkana. Anyone familiar with this route up to Texarkana?

I'm hesitant to go the recommended route not knowing the roads at all and fuel stops. HWY 59 is heavily traveled and though I don't care for it, there are lots of small towns and food, fuel along the way. Still can't believe there's not an interstate system that direction. I keep seeing the signs saying "future I-69 corridor" but not seen any real progress but haven't been north of Livingston in a coupe of years. Just wondering if construction or some other issue is the reason the recommended route is different than every year past.

130, Howdy;

Haven't driven on 59 since 2002, however, Google Earth
is your friend ... get yourself a bird's eye view of the sections
you haven't traveled recently (take note of the date of the
photos at the bottom), and you should be able to see where
there might be some pitfalls. Might even be able to see where
the "Future Interstate" is being routed. Also find the website for
Texas Dept of Roads (or whatever they call themselves), to see
where they are tearing things up.

I live in East Texas and travel these roads quite a bit. Highway 59 is the best way to get to Texarkana from Houston. There is some construction going on north of Lufkin and south of Nacogdoches, but nothing that will be problematic for you. We take the same route going to Arkansas. I would not take Highway 19.

Could be because you inserted an 'underline dash' between the words of your user name, and your user name is all upper case, making it actually different?

C130 we used to drive to Rogers AR. (extreme NW Arkansas) and always used I45, through Dallas then to Ft. Smith, and on north. For us to get to I45 we have to cut through the woods from Cleveland to New Waverly. But Hot Springs is so far south you will about have to use 59. Biggest issue will be getting from Magnolia to 59. Is 242 from Woodlands to 59 handy for you? Maybe just 190 to Livingston?

We're headed to Indy for the race next week and have to use 59 to Texarkana. Google has me routed on 315 off 259, bypassing Timpson, Teneha, and Bobo. Also taking 8 out of Linden to 67 in Maud and then into Texarkana. Maybe Mr. Google knows something.

I think we will stop just the other side of Texarkana at Sunrise RV Park.

Yes, 242 is very convenient and I'm only a couple miles north of 242 and about 12 west of I-45 and live off FM1488. We go to Lake Livingston State Park a lot and usually take 242 over to 59. I've taken 105 in Conroe over to 59 also but there's too many stop lights so normally take 242. Only problem has been all the construction at 242 and I45 but that's amost done. There have been numerous weekends the last year where the intersection at I-45 and 242 has been closed.

Yep there is plenty of construction on 45. I was trying to get to Niftee Fiftee car show on Louetta last Saturday night. When I got to Woodlands Parkway I figured I missed it in the construction.
