Diesel Works Best for Me

I started off with a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 360 ci gas engine. I loved the truck but when we upgraded our trailer to the " 1/2 ton towable " Passport, I wound up 2000 lbs over my GCWR and the camper wasn't even fully loaded. The truck really labored to pull up the mountains. When I found our current truck I was mostly looking for a heavier truck with crew cab.I was'nt looking for a 1 ton but the price was right and milage was low. The diesel makes towing in the mountains much nicer and the truck doesn't have to work as hard. If we were only going to camp within 50 miles of home I would'nt have really been interested in a diesel, but since we plan on traveling around the country as well as locally I'm much more comfortable with it over the gas. In the end I think its up to the individual as to what fits your needs the best.

Everyone has unique needs. Glad you got what you needed and wanted to meet yours. We are perfectly satisfied with the F-250 SD CC with the 6.8L/4.10 rear which is also my daily driver to the plant each day.

Fla-Gypsy surprised you didn't say something about why he likely got such a good deal on a low mileage F350 with the 6.0 diesel.

There is no need to depress his enthusiasm and we can hope he got one the "good ones".

Thanks for trying to spare me the horror stories guys, but I know the perils of owning A 6.0 . Lol. I did a lot of homework and am aware of the problems and have taken quite a few steps to try to ensure its longevity. Thanks for the well wishes. I love the truck. I hope I got a good one too.

Diesel

The biggest problem with the 6.0 were the Injectors were not seated in the head properly and the fuel leaked into the crankcase. If it was caught early enough all 8 Injectors and Seals replaced the engine ran fine with little problems. When my Dealership sold one we told the new owner to return the truck after a few thousand miles so we could check them for bleed down. gave them a loaner car or truck to use. Most of the time we just replaced the injectors. My diesel tech was on straight salary and I did not rush him (I did have a female truck tech. for a while but she left for more money to work on construction equipment, that girl could really swing a wrench and was real easy on the eyes).Ford never said a word about it and we only replace 2 engines while other Dealers in the area replace 2 out of 5 sold.

There was also the whole oil cooler and EGR cooler cracking mess. Mine did that at around 130k. I replaced them both with the bulletproof diesel kits and drive on. Lower temps, no more mixing of oil and water and less heat in the EGR cooler.
After those were fixed, I dropped 2 injectors and replaced 4. Still have the truck, drive it daily and it's a good one!
Regular oil and antifreeze changes seem to help a lot!

Bought it with 20,000 on the clock in March. Has almost 25,00 now. I've added a coolant filter, Fixed the FICM to bring the voltage back up, Blue spring FPR upgrade, Updated the Turbo Feed and drain lines, And deleted the EGR cooler. This weekend I'm changing the oil and going to Rotella T6 synthetic and changing the fuel filters. I'm hoping doing these things at such low milage will help prevent some of the common problems. It gets driven more often now than the original owner drove it. I know its not good for them to sit. Its my first diesel. I'm still learning.

Deleting the egr cooler is a big ++. Don't push it hard till it is well warmed up and give proper cool down. With your light trailer, hopefully you will not have issues.
