Battery Box source

Will be closing (hopefully) in North Little Rock on a new 2022 Cougar 22mls next Monday. Jumped ahead and purchased 2 Lossigy 12A 100AH batteries. Now am faced with the chore of finding appropriate battery boxes for these things.

Has anyone out there in Keystone land had experience with these batteries and the corresponding boxes to house them.

+ Bob

Didn't look up the appropriate enclosure, but have you ensured the stock converter/charger is capable of charging lithium?

I believe some standard WFCO converter/chargers will not do so.

What has worked for me...go to your local WalMart and shop the housewares aisle for plastic storage containers. You will need to know how much room you have in the RV and what is the minimum size container for your batteries. I had to notch the top edge of the container for the cables to pass. I also used the OEM vent hose to vent the box. I used a hole saw to drill a hole in the box lid. I used stainless hose clamps on either side of the hose to secure it. I also drilled a hole in the bottom of the box and secured it to the bottm of the storage area,

Thanks a bunch. Therse batteries are to be installed outside on the hitch on a pre-made rail just behind the propane bottles. Was hoping to find a couple of battery boxes to fit these things. Somewhere out there in camper land there has to be someone who has faced this Delima.

Looks like a gp 27 or 31 might work. You need to get the battery dimensions available on the battery website and then search for group 27 and 31 battery boxes.

Thanks for the comeback.

Been doing this. Think I may have stumbled on to one at an online marine shop.
This particular battery is 12.95 x 6.69 x 8.43. Sorta a weird size but it seems these day's everything is a bit weird.

Yep, spent a good portion of my life falling outa aircraft in to places where they didn't want us. Then went to Chiropractic college and did that as long as a I could after fracturing a low back. Just do all the Honey Do's now.

Happy Trailering.

Here is a link to the NOCO GP27 battery box.
https://www.amazon.com/NOCO-HM327BKS...s%2C139&sr=8-1

There are some NOCO "dual battery" or "two batteries in the same box" offerings, but they are, IMO, outrageously priced. As an example, the single battery boxes above are $12.95 each. A dual box runs around $120 to house both batteries in a single box.

Here are the deminsions for the GP 27 box.

I have 2 group 27s Lead Acid in a Camco double battery side by side box installed at dealer's whim. Maybe?

Here’s something else to consider.

I was researching the switch from flooded lead-acid batteries to lithium. I looked at the instructions for one battery brand that I was considering and read something very interesting. It said to ensure 4” of space around the batteries. See the attached picture. I have a Torklift PowerArmor Solar battery box that’s just larger than the two group 24 deep cycles on my tongue.

I’m holding off for now.

I was adding 2 BattleBorn 100Ah batteries to my camper and could not find any double or two single group 27 battery boxes that would fit on the rail behind the two propane tanks, so I ended up with the HAUL-MASTER 2.31 cu. ft. Steel Trailer Tongue Box from Harbor Freight and it fit nicely behind the propane tanks. I attached the box to the frame and then bolted 2 Group 27 battery trays inside the box (which fit because there is not room taken up by the handles of a standard battery box). The trays have a strap to secure the batteries and make for easy removal. Also the Box is lockable. I do have to remove the plastic cover for the Propane tanks to get the key in the lock, but that also serves a deterrent for potential theft. All cables enter and exit the box thru Cable Glands for a nice clean and weather tight seal.
Just my thoughts and what worked for me.

The dealer crammed two battery boxes next to each other and they were too big for the rack so got all deformed. When in doubt, make your own! I removed them and used a Dremel to cut and shape them a little and then with some FlexSeal tape stuck them together and it has worked out great.

I guess I was lucky when I got my Battleborn 100Ah battery. It fit in one of my existing Gp 27 boxes. I stressed over it before it arrived because I also had to come up with a custom bus bar in order to fit the in line amp meter in with the battery and cables.

First I was getting 2 batteries and then when I paid the bill for those I realized with the trailer sitting in storage I wanted them secured so I bought this:

https://www.etrailer.com/Battery-Box.../TLA7708R.html

and then changed the lock to something better.

At the time, it was about the cost of one battery...but I just noticed it probably has gone up about $100 in the last 18 months!
