Ford fifth wheel prep package & Andersen

good morning folks,

quick question, I just bought a 2018 F250 6.7L with the fifth wheel prep package option, I already have the Andersen hitch that was installed in my F150. I was told that the only way to use the Andersen hitch is to get the Reese adapter (part# 30156). any of you guys with the same set up ?

Thanks!
JL

if you anderson hitch is not set up for the puck system than you need the Reese adapter (part# 30156). Or, sell the anderson hitch and get a new hitch that goes with the puck system.

I had to get the Reese adapter (part# 30156) because I did not want to spend another $1200 for a new hitch.

our try to get someone to put rails into your ford....don't think that will work.

Jelo,
I just went through the same problem with my 2018 Ram 3500. The adapter for my Curt 16K Slider raised the entire hitch approx 2.5 inches and I had to adjust the height of the king pin receiver (lower). My truck is a short bed so my decision was essentially made for me. I paid over $600 for the adapter and install. Got home and found it online for $360 and the install is not difficult at all. Build it according to the video, leave the bolts loose until installed then torque and adjust puck levers.
Just something to consider if you want to stay with your present hitch. If I can not get mine to track correctly, the whole assembly will be for sale for the correct puck capable slider hitch.

JeLo,

Too bad you're not closer. I have a Reese adapter hanging in the pole barn. We used it for one season, then bought the hitch legs to convert our "rail system hitch" to a "puck system hitch".... It's gathered dust for 4 years now.

The only "problem" with the Reese adapter is that it raises the hitch base (therefore the entire hitch) about 1.5". As long as you can adjust the hitch height and/or the pinbox height to compensate, you're good to go. It's just one more "component to remove" to get a clean bed. Works well and lasts a long time....

Before I bought the truck I now have I was looking at another F350 that had the factory mount option but didn't have the hitch. While considering buying it I located a factory hitch on Craigslist for $300. I didn't buy it since I chose not to buy that truck, but you may be able to find one that someone has no use for at a good price.
