A thermal imager will show the aluminum stud. You might get a local fire dept to use theirs to locate the stud pattern in the area you plan to cut. Even with the old technology imagers we used 10 years ago, they could see the heat pattern left by foot prints on a floor several seconds after someone had passed through a room. Today should be super sensitive. Since the studs are hollow, they produce a different heat signature than the foamed in sections. Perhaps a tool rental business would have a thermal imager.
