2020 Passport 239ML Weights
What am I missing here... Keystone's website states a vastly different carrying capacity of 2000 lbs. (and I realize that isn't in stone and can change at any time).
If I read and understand it correctly, the label on the side of my trailer states it has 661 pounds of cargo capacity which is calculated with the fresh water tanks full (359 lbs of water). So in theory, with empty tanks and remaining listed capacity of 661lbs, it equals 1020 lbs. of "potential" weight capacity. Right? (of course I'd never have the fresh water empty, so 1020 isn't reality either, but for argument...)
Do the ratings listed on the website really vary that much?
GVWR is 5400, minus the printed dry weight of 4340 = 1060.
1060 minus the assumption of full fresh tanks at 359lbs = 701
(we only keep about 10 gallons on board for bathroom use during travel, but the HW tank and cold/hot PEX lines are full)
Where is the 661 coming from? Or are they assuming the weight of something else added in to the calculation and 661 is the calculated number?
Seems to me that the website number is WAY off from reality. More than it should be. The trailer dry weights are closer, 4340 printed on the label and 4430 on the website (could simply be a transposed number on their site or an option or two added at time of manufacturing.)

The GVWR of 5400 - 4340 dry weight = 1060 minus the weight of battery/batteries minus the weight of filled propane bottles minus spare tire & possibly the carrier minus the weight of that 10 gallons of water = ????
The dry weight does not include any of the items mentioned, it was the weight as it rolled off the assembly line, it will never weigh that nor will you will ever tow it at or near that ever again.

I understand that it'll never be that light again, ever. I'm trying to wrap my brain around the listed cargo capacity of 661 lbs rating. How is that being calculated?

Using the bottom label , 1020 lbs minus 37 gal of fresh water minus 6 gallons of hot = 661. That makes the empty weight 4380.
Do you have another weight label on the inside of the door jam?

I wasn’t even looking there at the tire label, thanks for pointing that out (tunnel vision!). No, there is no other weight related labels on the trailer.

Looking on web, i see several specs for the empty weight and fresh water capacity. I guess it's off the the scale.

There are the two weight labels on the front roadside corner of the trailer and there is another yellow weight label on the front side of the main entry door frame. On some trailers, that "yellow sticker" is on the screen door lower kick panel, but most are on the door frame. It's easy to overlook, I don't think I've had more than 3 or 4 people who even knew the "yellow sticker" is there....
As Danny said, the "brochure weights" are a completely empty trailer" with no optional equipment, no propane, no battery, no spare tire or spare mount, no BBQ grill (complimentary with some trailers in some packages).... Brochure weights are "fantasy" and you'll NEVER find a trailer at a dealership that weighs what the brochure says that model weighs... Just adding the spare tire/wheel and carrier will increase the "shipping weight" by 75+ pounds, then the battery, propane and that "free" starter kit (hose, sewer fittings and chocks) ... As a trailer "sits on the dealer lot", with water in the water heater and lines, it will typically weight 200-300 pounds more than the shipping weight.
In some trailer lines, that "how much does it really weigh?" question is further clouded by the "mandatory optional packages" that are forced onto the buyer. Advertising puts the shipping weight and carrying capacity in a chart (probably so the advertising is better than the competition), then the factory adds "mandatory optional packages" which take that "brochure weight" away, making the trailer "much heavier than the brochure. That means the trailer is no longer able to carry what the brochure says it will carry (and stay under the GVW).....
Every manufacturer does the same thing. Look at Ford, GM, RAM and they all advertise payloads and GCWR's that are not attainable in any "customer optioned truck"... They list payloads in "base model trucks" with no spare tire/wheel, no jack and no lug wrench... In years past, the rear bumper was not a standard item on pickup trucks and also was not included in the payload. You've got to think back to the old steel bumpers with the dealership name stamped into the face of that "silver painted steel bumper with the red letters".
It takes some "sleuthing" to arrive at what your trailer can carry. I find that putting the rig on a CAT scale and actually weighing it is much more accurate than trying to "add/subtract and compare" all three of the weight labels (2 on the front corner and one on the entry door frame).....

I agree those numbers appear to be confusing but IMO you are making a mistake in your calculations; you cannot mix the numbers from the brochure/website with the actual numbers from the trailer. They are 2 distinctly different sets of numbers and cannot be reconciled against each other.
The website numbers are for "a" trailer of that model, not "your" trailer and must be bounced against themselves, not from the actuals on the trailer. When I was comparing trailers I took the weights listed for this trailer from the website and thought I was going to be close. AFTER I had gotten far enough along into the negotiations I thought about verifying the weight for this trailer. The website numbers were as high as I wanted to go. When he sent me a pic back from the trailer sticker I was very surprised to find this trailer empty weight as well as gvw were up by 500lbs. I was not happy but no one's fault but my own.

Thanks for the details above everyone. I understand what you're saying. I will go look for the label on the door as well, I've probably seen it and disregarded it as a door manufacturer label, not a trailer manufacturer label.
I will also have the trailer weighed again when the A/C arrives. I have access to a forklift so I was planning on taking the trailer to our shop to swap out the A/C's. I'd like to get a rolling empty weight of the trailer, no gear at all. Then I'll reweigh again the next time we head out for a long weekend and have things packed as we normally would.
(John- I remember those stamped bumpers long ago)

The door label - applied just as you all said, in all its glory and in Yellow. It was like that big banner on PPLs website that I missed. Case closed.

Good lesson learned here. Anxious to get back to the scale.

What do the warning labels on the sun visors in your truck state? Yea, thought so.

That reminds me of the obnoxious decal Toyota used to put on the inside of the driver’s door about the four wheel drive system. That was tacky! And so are those visor labels.
