Name that thingy-ma-bob

What the heck do they call those "shock struts" they put on the bed to hold the mattress up? One of ours has conked out and need to order one, but don't know what to call it.
Thanks.

You will see them listed online as lift support struts and gas support struts. Make sure you purchase the same length and diameter with the appropriate size ball ends

It’s called a strut. They come in different lengths and strength. Yours may have numbers on it telling that information.

Also look for the correct "lift pounds" or "PSI". You want the replacements to lift the bed platform the same height but you also want the new gas struts to have the same "lifting capacity". Too light and the bed will be heavier to lift, too strong and the bed won't stay in the down position.....

There's a tag/label on the existing gas struts that should give you "closed length, extended length and PSI rating.

Here's a link to one supplier;

https://www.rvupgradestore.com/shop-...+strut+for+bed

Length and lbs. of assist are important. The ones I've used just snap over a ball with a slip on clip to retain it. If the bed has been heavy to lift (always an issue for us when we install a new mattress) a higher pressure helps. Increasing 10psi in each strut makes quite a difference so be careful. Too much and the bed will pop up hard enough to crack your jaw then you have to get 3 people to pull it down.

LOL I can just see it now, get in bed and it slams up throwing us into the wall. LOL. Old time slap-stick humor, I can see Laurel and Hardy now with a Murphy bed. LOL.

In my mind's eye I visualize Larry and Curly high-fiving with Moe stuck behind a Murphy bed!
