Was out ridin g much of the day; turned on the news and was surprise the rioting had spread from Minneapolis to all across the country. If you are near where any of this stuff is happening, keep your head down!

Lots of thoughts about the craziness, the folks perpetrating it and what should happen to them. Hopefully someone, in some sane thinking part of government, will put a hard blanket on it. Until then be safe, aware, vigilant and be prepared for you and yours from the crazies.

When I go camping, it isn't in blue cities. Problem avoided. Blue cities are for driving through, and only if it's just too far to go around.

When I was a kid growing up in East TX, I was getting ready to be a 5th grader when the Watts riots in ‘65 was happening. That was the first time I “payed attention” and understood what they were rioting about and I was sympathetic. Thru the rest of the 60s the student protests/riots about Vietnam did nothing but piss me off. I had no empathy for them. My cousin was a marine and was wounded during the Tet offensive. Anarchy and destruction has always left a foul taste in my mouth. DW and I were watching the protests downtown Austin. They tried to shut down IH35 and traffic was really bad. I happened to notice a Montana being towed by a white Ram truck. I wondered if he was a forum member...sorry he had to go thru that mess.

Currently I think it would be wise to avoid urban roadways at all costs. It may take more time and fuel but common sense should prevail in anyone's decision to traverse a "hot" area driving an "expensive truck" towing an "expensive trailer" and the perception that may project.

I believe travelling cross-country will just require a little common sense and avoiding large cities as best you can. Try to avoid DC, Minneapolis, Memphis, Los Angeles....wait, how is this different from the usual plan?
I like to come to a forum where political conversation is at a minimum, information is at a maximum, and humor prevails in the end. I hope we all work hard to keep it that way.

I actually put on extra miles to drive around blue cities. Most cities for that matter.

Be sure to avoid states where this could end up with you being confined to a room smaller than your trailer. Be safe but don't be foolish, Hank
(Food,Water, sewer and electric are provided free of charge but you may not enjoy the company of your roommate.)

Again, we are wondering away from the purpose and usefulness of this forum. Let's all strive to keep the comments relative to the purpose and within the forum guidelines.

Guess my mind works differently than those rioting!
How does destroying property, looting, burning others vehicles remotely have anything to do with justice for an unfortunate individual that met with an out of control law enforcement officer several states away. Sounds like a good excuse to steal & destroy.
Personally they should be dropping those looters as they come out the broken store fronts with their arms full, that would be huge deferent for other looters.
Sorry just my .02 cents!

I hate driving on IH35 at the best of times. We always go up 281 and avoid Austin & DFW whenever we can. Both are hard on a country boy's nerves. Houston is even worse on IH10 but you can hardly avoid going through as the loop roads are as big a nightmare.

You might want to re-read your post... sounds like the brother, sister and niece are "thugs"? Actually had been to Minneapolis a couple times when I worked for an Austin tech company helping with training our product at a local software manufacturer and thought it was a great place except they had that white stuff on the ground.... brrrrrrrrr Not sure I liked the white stuff (my momma taught me not to say four letter words).

BTW: As OP, my intent wasn't to get political. No one cares what my politics are and I am pretty sure the reverse is true. What i do care about is how this turmoil affects my camping. We are taking off for most of the week later this month and decided to head over to a favorite spot not far from where we live at a campground in Bandera partly due to not wanting to go through any big towns until this dies down. We also are using a new dog sitter for the first time and want to be close enough to get home in a hurry.
Park is called Soliel du'Coeur: https://www.campgroundreviews.com/re...ducoeur-251678
All pics on the campgroundreviews site are mine from 2018 when we stayed there last. Pretty sure there won't be any riots in Bandera... btw: all the restaurants are now open again for dine-in eating!

Even smaller cities are getting action. Yesterday Modesto had a large group circle the PD and then kneel for 8 minutes. Then they were headed to the Target store on McHenry. Word was they were going to burn and loot it. Didn’t happen but there was looting in Stockton and Sacramento.
I hope calmer heads prevail, and we can all get back to beating Covid-19 instead of each other!!

I did hear on the news that experts believe all the close contact of the participants in these demonstrations and riots will be spreading the Covid and we will likely see an uptick in the amount of cases. Seems ironic somehow.
