I-10 total closure

Two locations closed both ways:
I-10 at San Jacinto River, east of Houston, closed due to 9 barges breaking loose and hitting bridge supports. To be inspected today.
I-10 at Winnie, near Beaumont, closed due to high water.

Incredible amounts of rain in the area from tropical storm Imelda.

I-10 at San Jacinto River now has 2 lanes open each way on one of the 2 bridges. Expect delays at peak traffic times.

Did they fix the bridge? It looked pretty bad.

No. Last I heard it will be next year. Several pilings appear very badly damaged.
Still a traffic issue at morning and evening rush.

I'm not sure what you're saying Roadglide. How did you get through the first time?
Did you notice one bridge was closed and traffic was 2 way on the one remaining bridge the second time?
It's mentioned everyday as a major traffic issue on morning TV traffic reports.

I was going east the west traffic was stoped for miles because of flooding . I don't know what time the bridge was hit with badges . I went over the I 10 bridge going west into Huston at 4 am the 27 after driving 1000 miles with my son and there was no delays and very little traffic. My friend went through 26 afternoon with no trouble going east. I think the weather and news have to much exaggerating .

I'm not going to research the timeline of when you went through the area versus when the barges hit the bridges, but it's no exaggeration when I see video of the area at rush hour and very heavy traffic in my town because people are avoiding I-10.

My experience is 4 A M going west on I 10 through Huston not a problem . It appears your experience is the hot spots from the local news. Hey gearhead I just realized you live 50 miles North of Houston. People are avoiding I 10

Repairs may be complete in February 2020. Still very slow traffic morning and evening rush hours.

I forgot about it last week and got caught in it. Jeez, midafternoon traffic was backed up for 10 miles westbound.
TV traffic reporter says it should be repaired and open any day. Believe it when you see it.

If you take IH10 through Louisiana, you might want to buy a couple foam cushions for your tail bones. IH20 is worse as memory serves. Make sure your spare is inflated properly hehe... Last I took IH10 from N. Fla, blew out a couple trailer tires on a motorcycle trailer and ruined the fenders.

^^ Oh yeah. I-10 is terrible, especially just west of Lake Charles and just across the Texas line around Orange. There are some whoop de doos at Sulphur LA that will make you think the trailer will unhitch. Lots of heavy road construction at Orange TX. I would get off I-10 at Jennings LA and go north on LA26 to US190. Go westbound on 190 through Kinder and Reeves. It changes to HWY 12 and will take you through Deweyville and Mauriceville to I-10 near Beaumont. Reverse that if you're eastbound of course. Or you can go north on I-49 near Lafayette and eat at Prejeans. The Coushatta Casino at Kinder has a decent RV park if you need to overnight.
I-49 between Alexandria and Natchitoches is terrible with slab separations that will jackhammer your truck. It broke the belts on both my front tires.
