What everyone is sreaming about in Texas is insurance, particularly homeowners. Values have skyrocketed, thus taxes too. The local tax assessors keep pushing values up and the public and the big insurance companies keep screaming STOP. the big insurance companies are pressuring homeowners to replace roofs since that is a common damage claim. Constant money grab. Legislature is supposed to have insurance at the top of their list.

It's all a racket. TX just passed a law increasing the homestead exemption to 100k from 40k. THE DAY it was passed our local appraisal district started putting ads in the local newspaper that they would be out "re appraising" properties to be sure they were appraised at 100% valuation....but they have no idea what that is since they don't use comps or anything else - it's adjusted "as needed" LOL. Never saw an adjuster (they no longer come) but got a new valuation notice jumping my appraised value by 50%....Nothing happening on the home front. Backwoods farming town where the population has decreased approx. 30+ % since we moved here but..... What can you say/do? It is infuriating though.
