Imperial Sand Dunes

We were lucky enough to be traveling in the southwest desert areas during a time of excessive rainfall throughout the area.

These pictures were taken during a visit to the great California Imperial Sand Dunes Recreational Area. This section of the recreational area is just off I-8, west of Yuma, AZ.

Not travel pictures. These are from our yard this week. Spring trees flowers & leaves.

The 2nd pic is of an oak that doubled the size of it's leaves in two days. There are/were flowers there as well.

Niagara falls

Taken during an all day van tour. Best advantage of the van tour? Head of the line at all attractions. Next best? Started and ended at our RV Park at North Tonawanda, NY.

If you find yourself east of Portland, in Hood River, Oregon....

Fruit Loop. ... It's a 35-mile scenic meander through the fruit orchards, small towns, and back roads of the Hood River Valley. Located about 45 minutes east of Portland by way of the Columbia Gorge, and directly south of the town of Hood River, the area is Oregon's largest fruit growing region.

Last year in Indiana, farmers were unable to get out into their fields because of the massive amounts of rain we had. As a result, weeds took over many, many fields across Indiana. For the farmers, this was a very troublesome time. By June, many were able to do their first field work when things finally dried out.

Here's a photo of what happened at the end of May 2019. It really was a beautiful sight. But definately not for the farmers who owned these fields:

There's a bit of folklore about the planting and growth of corn that says:

"Knee high by the 4th of July."

In other words, if corn is not at least knee high by July 4, it won't have enough growing times left in the season to produce a good harvest. With today's modern marvels of genetic manipulation, those old time formulas don't really pertain any more. But for the sake of the folklore, I took this photo on July 4, 2019 after the farmers were finally able to get into the fields. Fortunate, the harvest was successful in 2019, but it was harvested early November for a lot of farmers.

In times past, that same field had corn stalks over my head by July 4.

Raise of hands of those who have been to Sauvie Island just east of Portland, Oregon. The Island is known for raising fruit, flowers and their nude beach.
