Go with the 1.2K/12K equal-i-zer. If the empty tongue weight is 800 lbs you could exceed the 10K unit when fully loaded. What will you be towing? (Make, Model & length) What will you be towing it with? (Yr, Make, Model, motor & wheelbase length)

Never hurts to get the next size bigger..... as mentioned weight creeps up on you... that way you KNOW your set-up is ok (in that department, anyway).

IMHO look for the TT GVWR. Unloaded weight is no help. You want the tongue weight to be 13 to 15% of the GVWR. That will let you know what size bars you really need.

No, bigger is NOT always better, ever try to put a 20" diameter tire on a 15" rim?

Bars act as springs. If bars are too large, the ride will be terrible.

Looks like you have a pretty good matchup between your TV and trailer. Chuck&Gail brings up a good point in that using the empty weights can be misleading.

I just took a quick look at the Outback spec sheet and the shipping weight is listed as 7385 with a max load capacity of 1615. So the fully loaded trailer would be 9000 and using Chuck&Gails assumption that 14% of the load capacity would be added to the tongue weight...that puts you at 1005 pounds.

Based on the numbers, you could possibly exceed the max tongue weight rating of the 1K/10K Equal-i-zer, thus I still vote for the 1.2K/12K Equal-i-zer.
