Pre trip inspection
Hi all I was traveling from palm coast back to savanah on sunday and past several campers on i 95 they all had a cargo door flapping or open held with a strut windows flapining doors swinging open. Please peple do a through walk around and check everything before you head out. We passed all 10 of these campers with in 160 miles. I think people are in to much os a rush to get going! just a heads up travel safe!good news none were Keystone products so we are all good

I was following a nice 5th wheel this past weekend that a large rear window unsecured. It was flapping open and closed. I tried to signal the guy as I went by but I'm sure I looked like a nutcase. I routinely see campers with their antennas up, as well.

I was at a KOA end of year last year, saw a guy leaving...he was adjusting his hitch and what not. His antenna was all the way up. I went over, told him about it. He continued to do what he was doing, went inside the trailer, in and out etc. I watched as he drove away...with the antenna still up.
Maybe he didn't have that far to go, I dunno, but sometimes even if you try to help, people still don't listen. He seemed to be new to all of it, his trailer looked new, and the amount of time he spent messing with his hitch seemed to indicate the same.
It won't stop me from trying to help though. I would hope someone would let me know as well. I've never left the antenna up, but I have left my electric jack down way too far once. Figured it out about a mile and a half down the road, stopped and corrected that, it never touched the ground once so I was lucky. Scared me though, I can only imagine what might have happened if it caught on something in the road.

Good advise/reminder. After hooking up, I always take a walk around and double check things are locked and/or put away. When ever leaving a site I always look back to be sure nothing was left behind or was under the trailer. That said, I have lost a grill brush or two through the years as I put them on the rear bumper from time to time.

DW and I both do our little inspection before we leave to make sure things are stowed away and compartments are locked, also check to make sure brake, and turn signal lights are working......it only takes a couple minutes.

When we're leaving, we do our walk around, then double check each other, then after everything is "said and done", I pull forward enough to completely clear the campsite, get out and do one more final "check everything outside of the trailer/tow vehicle. You'd be surprised by the number of times I've found an adapter on the ground under where the trailer was parked, a latch that wasn't closed, a hatch that was not locked, a tool left on the bumper, etc...
It just gives one "new look" at everything after moving out of the campsite.

I always do a walk around when pulling out I hold the Manuel brake switch to make sure the trailer brakes work

John, we couldn't agree with you more. We have the Harley strapped down in the back with no telling what else. It only takes one little stop to make sure that the rest of your trip will go relatively smoothly.

Like the rest, DW and I make walks around the trailer to make sure everything is secure before taking off. However, on a couple of trips, we would get home and the vent cover would be opened. I fixed it by buying a new trailer.

I'm very new to this and probably take more time than most but only because I've read of so many stories here. I also stop before getting on the highway and do one more walk around. These things cost to much to leave pieces and parts strewn along the highway.
I did leave the tool for the WDH on the bumper once. Luckily it wedged between the bumper and tailgate. It made the 45 mile ride on I-95 from CW. I was bothered more of the thought of it flying off and damaging someone's vehicle than losing it. Now I immediately hand to DW when done.

I check and recheck and recheck. Around 40 years of Rving and I still missed leaving a vent open that the wind broke. Antenna was left up once, next door camper was pointing at it as I pulled out. Thank you for telling me. And I left the swing arm door bar out once. That one was seen as I checked the mirrors as pulling out. It happens.
