Picked up my new tires

I stopped and picked my new tires up today. I hope to have them installed this weekend if I get a chance. I like how heavy built these feel compared to other trailer tires I've had.

Just like the Goodyear G614's, they have so much steel and the extra rubber, almost double the weight of the E range tires. Those Sailun's look like real tires too. Just make sure whoever you have install them installs the all metal valve stems that will handle the 110 psi these tires use.

They are an LT235/85-16, I stepped up from a ST235/80-16. These are much heavier then the ST's I'm taking off of it.

Whoops! Forgot to add text. I mounted and balanced them today. I still can't keep from being amazed how nice these tires are, I hope they only perform as good as they look. Time will tell.

What made you switch from ST trailer tires to LT passenger tires?

I should rephrase that...why did you switch from purpose specific ST trailer tires to LT Light Truck tires?

Those Sailuns, just like the Goodyear G614's are real truck tires, nowhere close to a passenger tire. Passenger tires would be 'P' rated anyway. Don't know of any passenger tires rated 14 ply.

Please believe me when I say I'm not trying to be a smarta$$ just trying to understand the logic.
So are some LT truck tires built extra heavy and thus OK to use as trailer tires as well as passenger truck tires?
Because if so, that makes me re-think my choice on tires for the truck!

Both the Sailun S637 and the Goodyear G614 are trailer tires, not designed for or intended to be used on anything else. They just happen to be rated LT, which gives them a higher highway speed rating, 75 mph vs 65 mph for the ST tires. So, yes, they are LT tires, but they are not truck tires, although they are of very heavy construction, similar to what you would find on heavy trucks. Regardless of what they are called or rated, they are the answer for those of us with heavy trailers who have had dismal service from the E rated ST tires that these rigs come from the manufacturer with. The weights are too close to what the E rated tires are rated to carry, and it also makes me wonder why they would de-rate a 7,000 lb axle to 6,750 lbs, just to put on tires that are only rated 3,420 lbs. I know the answer, and it is the bottom line, dollars and cents.

Just out of curiosity, what are your wheels rated at? They look the same as what I have on my Alpine and they are only rated for 95 PSI if I remember correctly. Don't those tires recommend 100-110 PSI?

I made a choice to switch to these LT S637's as I wanted a little higher speed rating (I like to cruise at 70 mph) and these have a much much heavier construction then a std LRE LT tire or then the LRE ST that I removed. I've had ST's blow on me in past yrs with my old camper. So I wanted to try something different then the ST tires I've been use too.

My Rims are rated for 100 psi. I swapped my valve stems from rubber to bolt in. Not in attempt to run 110 psi that these are max rated for, but to allow me closer to my limit on my wheels. I'm running these at 90-95 psi to allow for rise in tire pressure as they warm up. That also still allows me a higher rated weight capacity then my axles are rated at. All in all I've very happy with my purchase.

I know, I hope this doesn't turn into "another thread". I hope I can just answer the questions asked. But this was really just me being excited about my new tire and like the way they looked and wanted to share. Oh well, here's hoping!! Lol

We have a Loft that I believe weighs 7000# and the first thing I bought were 15" D rated tires and wheels to replace the 14" C that were on there. (In fact I bought them on my way to pick the thing up before I even owned it!)
I don't know what weight rating is but the tires were the original stock ones from 2008 and I didn't want any issues.
The problem I have is the sway this thing has, even at 65-70 mph it can be a white knuckle ride and it's worlds different compared to doing 80 sometimes with our old pop-up.
So I'd like to get the stiffest tire possible, even if it's complete overkill...I'm going to mount a second $50 sway control first though and see how much that helps

If you are having that much sway when traveling down a normal road, you might consider having the trailer axle alignment checked. If your tires are aired up properly, and you have sway control in place, you shouldn't be having sway issues. You should also be running your tow vehicle as level as possible, too far either way out of level could also be a cause for the sway.
