LP Gas Problem

We are brand new owners of a 28' Keystone Cougar TT. We have it hooked up to our house electricity via a 30 amp plug. We have the gas heater running to keep the pipes from freezing. The gas seems to be running out way too fast. We just filled both tanks this past Saturday. One of them has already run out. Also there is an intermittent beep going off in the trailer. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum and to Keystone RVing. We're happy to have you join us. There is a tremendous volume of information available to you by using the search function located in the top blue bar of every forum webpage. If you click on SEARCH and type in propane use, you'll get a number of results to help guide you to answers to your questions.

To get you started, here is one link to the same question you have posed:

http://www.keystonerv.org/forums/sho...hlight=propane

To answer your question in very short form, if you get a week out of one 30 pound propane tank (7.5 gallons) you're doing very well indeed.

As for the beep, try changing the battery in your smoke detector.

Again, welcome to the forum.

hbr777, Howdy;

Propane will get used up at differing rates by different folks, thermostat
settings, ambient temp., all kinds of variables...
for the intermentant beep check your battery(ies), the propane alarm
beeps when the batteries are in a low charge state. As you didn't mention
what year or make and model I'm presuming a used. Anyway, The heater
runs off of 12 vdc. and your inverter may not be throwing a full charge back
to the battery(ies).

This might be something else to check as it seems to be very common. When you have your 30lb tank filled....watch the gallon gauge on the pump side as the tech fills it. If it was empty when you brought it in, It should take about 6gal. If not...it was never purged right. Or, If you find that you can't get all the liquid out of it. Like when it is getting low and you have the cooktop lit and it goes out like the tank is empty...but when you check it, there is still liquid in it that won't come out. Again it was never purged right. Have them purge it and you will see it will last alot longer.

As for the BEEP... Be very aware as to what is beeping and why!!!

We had a gas leak a couple years ago and the alarm only beeped and did not sound the full alarm (for whatever reason).

hmm

find the beep. if its the propane you might want to check the lines. you can use soapy water. I use bubbles you blow in the toy section of walmart. put it in a spray bottle and check all of the fittings. if it bubbles then you have a leak. for winter you might want to use a bigger tank. I full time so I fitted my 3912 with a guick connect and switching valves to connect to a 500 gal tank. run a line and a regulstor and t into the line coming from the inboard tanks.
