posi trac

has anyone installed a posi trac center section in a 2500 chev. 2whl drive is it worth the $600.00 pros or cons just think it would help getting around in snow

I wouldn't own a pick up without a LSD. You do have to remember that when they do break free .... BOTH wheels go where they want to. If you have a lead foot in turns it will increase tire wear considerably.

I had positraction installed in a 2WD Ranger I had years back. Made a *huge* difference off road, where I spent lots of time. It'll definitely help in the snow so you don't get stuck with one wheel spinning.

I don't know which unit you are considering but would suggest you look into a Detroit Truetrac. I have used it in Jeeps and was very pleased with its performance and strength.

normally the chevy 2500's come with an eaton "autolocker" rather than a posi. Difference is

1) the autolocker when locked can do 100% torque transfer, posi unit can do 50-75%
2) autolocker won't lock (engage) above about 20mph, IMHO nice since you don't have to worry about it locking at speed on an icy corner and sliding sideways. Once locked it will stay locked until you get off the gas. Not true with a posi unit, it will lock at any speed.

yes, the eaton autolocker is nice. It can lock on turns from a stop if you lead foot it, and you will feel the rear end hop. worst is on right hand turns.

If you do any driving on wet grass, snow etc. with a 2wd, may be well worth the $$.
