Smile Solar Idea

Alright folks, I have an idea.
Here we go. I can buy a 4000 watt inverter at a decent price. So If I install 3 Trojan T-105 Batteries, A Solar Panel (still working on the size) and a 4000 Watt inverter I should be all set.

If I connect the inverter to the Camper 120VAC input, Thinking about simply making a shore plug, then the on board inverter should keep the on board batteries charged.

Of course I have to limit my electrical load but between the Solar Panels and the on board inverter charger I should be fine electrically for a long time.

Ideas or thoughts? Have I lost my mind?

Bryan

I have 2 T-105 batteries, an 85 W Kyrocera solar panel, and an 800W inverter- a smaller configuration than the one you outlined above. Our 110V needs are not great when we boon dock. Much of your set-up depends upon what kind of demands you are going to place on the inverter and hence your batteries and solar panels.
For a 4000W inverter, you would need plenty of "battery juice" if you were to be using high-drawing electrical appliances - microwaves, etc. - on a frequent basis.
As you are aware, solar panels are great in the sun but their output drops considerably on cloudy, overcast days.
I am thinking that you would probably require at least 2 solar panels in excess of 100w each and a minimum of 4 Trojans to get the best use out of a 4000w inverter. But again, whatever package you put together, will be dependent upon your 110V electrical wants and needs.
No comment or opinion about "Have I lost my mind"?
