Roof Repair

I need to repair a spot on the roof of our slide out, the spot was damaged when the motor leaked oil. Do I just put a patch over the spot or do I need to cut the bad spot out?

Keystone fixed one of my slides under warranty.

The Keystone repair procedure from my paperwork:

Clean the oil off with alcohol
Use a heat gun to heat up the membrane and press it back down
Cover it with eternabond.
Place drip pan under gearbox.

They put a 6" strip of eternabond the width of the slide.
