Las Vegas

Our very first visit to Las Vegas was April 1970, nearly 50 years ago. We had been transferred from Naval Air Station Cecil Field, FL to Naval Air Station Moffett Field, CA. Everything had been shipped to CA and we had 38 days to get there. Our boys were 8 & 10 and we were stopping everywhere for their great experience and ours too. After leaving the Hoover Dam we had booked three days at the Four Queens (downtown).

I would guess since that first trip that we have visited Las Vegas 15 – 20 times. It was really great traveling there in our RV rig because we could park on the strip, walk into the back door of the Circus Circus, open to RV patrons, take a people mover into the casino or out to the strip where we could ride the local bus lines just about anywhere we wanted to go.

Circus Circus provided the RV Park. They have FHU with 50 AMPS and basic cable TV. In these pictures we are in a fully paved parking lot and parked very close to others. Its Vegas, who care’s, we’re just going to sleep there. Button it up, turn the AC all the way down and go have fun. Once we went for a Vegas style wedding. Our traveling companion’s daughter got married. What a blast of fun.

We've only ever stayed at the Hitchin' Post to the north or Oasis to the south and even the Clark County Shooting Complex a couple of times, but may give Circus Circus a try the next time. How is it as far as noise goes?

Maybe these will help bring back some old memories

It was 1977 and we had a 1974 VW camper. We also camped at Circus Circus. We barely needed 15 amps - our rig had one outlet, one 12V light, hot and cold running water, and air conditioning or heat - the latter items depending on the ambient temperature. Our fridge was a simple ice box. That was a great little camper, but looking back on it we wonder how we ever managed for 6 weeks on the road one summer.

Last time I was at Circus Circus (must admit, a couple decades) it was like a scene out of Gangland. Has that changed?

As long as we are getting nostalgic, who remembers El Rancho, Sands, Barnaby Coast, Westward Ho, Stardust, Riviera, Desert Inn, Dunes, etc?

You bet I do! Worked at several and had drinks at all but the El Rancho.
Now everything is corporate an the "accounting department" runs the show and most of the old neon is part of a museum

We spent a month at the Nellis Fam Camp last April/May. It's one of the "best kept secrets" for anyone who is eligible. Directly behind the base hospital, it's "on-base" and secure.

There are two parts, the new part is very similar to a commercial RV park, out in the open, little shade, large, convenient bath houses and full hookups. The older part is the "old base mobile home park" and almost every site is a 100' pull through, complete with mature landscaping, shade, 30+ feet between sites, privacy, free laundry facilities. It's quiet, convenient to N Las Vegas Boulevard which leads directly to downtown. Las Vegas Motor Speedway is "about 1 mile further out the highway.

Scottz, how about Westward Ho and the .99 hot dogs, 1.09 hot dog and beer, .99 shrimp cocktail...I could go on. World's largest motel with 3,200 rooms. Yes, we do remember!

Yesss! Some place had the .99 foot longs; might have been Imperial Palace. Lots of memories. There was a place downtown next to Four Queens you could get a yard of daiquiri.
