Has any one purchased the Good Sam extended service plan and has used it for a claim.

I'd suggest you read it very carefully. Every word and what it means.

I had it on my last RV for 3 years used it 4 times AC, Refrigerator, Heater and Axle. I called them and explained the problem got a control number then I called a repair service they came checked it out called with the price and they got a repair approval number and then repaired it. I then paid the bill and then submitted the bill to the company for reimbursement. I received a check in about 20 days minus the deductible. I saved about $800.00 over the cost of the plan. Read and know what is covered and how to get reimbursed. The main thing is you have to call them before any work is done they have the right to send out a Adjuster to approve the work needed.

brantlaker - you said you "had" it on your last RV. Do you not have it on your current RV, and if not, why not? I don't ever buy extended warranty on anything but did this time just because. Just wondering about the cost/benefit thing.

my wife and I have it and have used it several times. Black valve, stereo, garage fan, toilet ball valve, fuel station pump, slide out ram and seal, microwave and I am sure a couple of other things.

We called a tech that works with the warranty company. They spot checked him on one thing so far but other than that he has gotten pre approval and payment directly from the folks at GoodSam.

In our humble opinion as first time RV owners it is worth every red cent.

Extended service plans are like an insurance policy, if you have it and need it they are great but if you pay for it and don't use it you're still out the money.

I prefer to self-insure the repairs of my trailer, many of which I do myself or have done by the local independent RV repair guy who doesn't have to wait for approval, or argue with anyone to get the parts. We have a savings account at our bank just for the trailer and stick $50 a week into the kitty. That way if something does break we have the money and if it doesn't we have a nice down payment towards the next RV.

When we traded in the Passport, we have a little over $5K in the account, if we had purchased an extended warranty we would have spent nearly that much and gotten nothing in return because nothing broke that I couldn't fix myself or it was under warranty from the manufacturer and all we were out was labor.

I do not have Good Sam on on my current RV. I bought a plan through my Dealer it is for 5 years and they through it in as part of the deal with my Slide Toppers. The price was set before i asked for the toppers and at the closing they asked me if I wanted it and I said yes if it was for Free so they gave it to me the coverage was the same.

Javi.

Javi, I sort of agree with you. My fridg and AC I paid the factory to extend the warranys till 2019. Good Sam wants $ 381.00 yearly for 5 yrs plus $200.00 deductable for each claim if approved. So I would have $581.00 invested in my first claim. With 2 major items already covered for the next 4 years. What's left.
I can repair a lot of stuff myself. So like you I'm going to self insure. I will start out with $581,00 already in the bank and another $381.00 the 2nd year and so forth. My son is a HVAC tech and specializes in gas, heating and ac and plumbing And can get a lot of the items at wholesale. Now if I could just find a extended service plan that also covers leaks then I have something.
