e rated tire on current wheels

I have a Cougar 2015 26rbi with D rated, 65psi tires and was wondering if I can put the GY Endurance E rated, 80psi tire on those wheels?
Thanks
Bill

Have you looked at the back of the wheels? The info should be cast into the backside of the wheels.

I had a 14 Cougar High Country 319rls and it came with d rated tires. The wheels were rated for 80psi so I upgraded to the e load range - which the trailer desperately needed. The wheels should be stamped with the psi or weight rating...or both.

To be honest, I’ve never seen a trailer wheel rated for less than 80 psi. That doesn’t mean they don’t exist, but my gut says you’d be fine. As others have said, safest bet is to pull one of the wheels and check the stamp/cast on the back.

Thanks, when you say on the back are you meaning on the back, rear outside of the rim or remove the tire and look at the back inside? I briefly looked on the rear side of the rim when mounted and didn't see anything

According to Etrailer, the wheels will be able to withstand the psi rating of any of the tires that are meant to fit them. What I will have to change are the valve stems to a metal reinforced version.

Yes, remove the wheel and see what’s stamped on the backside of the rim.

As for what e trailer told you. Let me explain that a bit. When they say meant to fit them. That doesn’t mean any tire that will fit them. Every wheel has a weight rating as well as a psi rating. Just for argument purposes, let’s say a wheel is rated for 3,000 lbs any tire that fits it that is also rated for 3,000 lbs will work. You can buy tires rated for 4,000 lbs that are the same size, but require higher air pressures. The wheel most likely will not be rated for high enough air pressures for that tire. The only way to know for sure is to pull the wheel off and check the back side.

The wheels on your 2015 Cougar should be the same wheels that are on my 2014 Cougar. The identification/load ratings is "cast on the back of the spokes". Your wheels will have similar markings to these (which are depicted in these photos).

You'll see two weight ratings. The lower rating is for that wheel is drilled for 5 lugs and the higher rating is for the same wheel when drilled for 6 lugs.
