Stairs for Our Boxer

We bought a larger tow vehicle for our Alpine but the steps into the back seat are too steep for our Boxer dog to climb. I fabricated a set of aluminum stairs that she can easily climb. The stairs weight about 15 pounds and are carried on the bed of the truck.

Those are steps are a really nice fabrication job. What is the payload rating for your truck? Just curious.... does a big rig have such a thing on a sticker somewhere; perhaps the door frame?

There is a sticker inside the driver's door post that says the GVWR is 31,300 pounds. I did not see an empty weight shown. I will take it to the truck scales this coming week to weight it and determine what the hitch weight capacity is.

The standard Freightliner 106 and it's 19,500# does not even come close to the Freightliner 112 and it's 31,300# GVWR rating. My 112 has a 450HP Detroit DD13 with 1,650 foot pound of torque and an Allison 6 speed automatic that shifts like my Chevy 3500HD Duramax and Allison. It drives like a little pick-up truck. I really like the extra power and the extra braking. Going to take it to the scales this week to answer any questions about hitch weight capacity questions.

what kind of mileage does it get? does it have a good turning radius?

looks like you would have a lot of room inside to stretch out for longer trips..

post some pictures if you don’t mind ..kinda interesting

Do you need a CDL to operate?

I have not had the truck long enough to check how many miles per gallon. It really does not matter to me anyways, we don't go very far.

The turning radius is 2 inches SHORTER than my 2018 Chevy four door long bed. I accurately measured the turn radius in my driveway.

The cab has tons of room in it. The back seat folds down into a bed but I took it out to give our dog more room to be comfortable.

Search for Freightline M2 Sportchassis online to find other trucks that do not require a CDL. Not many to chooses from.

This particular truck does require a CDL to operate. No problem. I have had my CDL for 47 years.

YES, the driver must have a CDL to operate this truck.

I took this truck to the local scales and weighed it. Total weight is 16,600# with front axle weight of 10,300 pounds and rear axle weight of 6,300 pounds. With the GVWR of 31,300# shown on the door frame sticker, my hitch weight /
payload capacity is 14,700 pounds.

Well, everyone will likely get a bit concerned over diesel prices as I keep hearing rumblings of a shortage. I went over to Lakehills yesterday and spent $80 on 15 gallons of diesel to top off my tank. We likely won't be camping far from home. I filled up four 5 gallon gas cans (about 4 gallons each) and that was another $50 bucks or so. Those are for my generator and a little for my lawn tractor. Hopefully prices will moderator soon as I am not a wealthy person.

I totally understand about the increased diesel prices but with what I have invested in my rig, I am not about to let the cost of fuel make me park it and stay home. I am not wealthy either but I have invested 50 years of my life working my butt off to make a few dollars and now that I am 65, it is time to spend some of that on the wife and I.

TOTALLY. Although it sucks the economy is what it is and at 74 I'm taking what I have and using it while I'm able. Kids are on their own ;-)

Price of fuel is depressing. Topped off the tank in my clunker with diesel (only 15 gallons) and filled four gas cans (about 4 gallons in each) and spent $130. Just heard a blurb on the news where the govt using money from its infrastructure bill that just passed put in heated sidewalks in some town in New England. Geesh, I feel my money flowing through my fingers.

Drove by a Circle K convenience store yesterday in Tucson & diesel was posted at $4.37, cheapest I've seen in a couple years.
This area fuel prices are all over the place?. In Phoenix it's at least a $1 more per gallon than Tucson.

Yesterday I was reviewing what we spent in diesel while camping for the year. Quite disturbing and I have to question when do we suspend longer trips if the price continues to climb. Diesel near me is running $5.63 to $5.92.

As of yet, we do not travel far from our central Texas area. Fuel prices here are about 4.57 to 5.04. I picked this Freightliner up in Amarillo Texas where fuel prices were higher. IF I were to plan a trip to an area where fuel prices are sky high, I would install a 300 gallon tank in the bed of the Freightliner so I could take advantage of areas that have lower fuel prices. I have done this exact thing but with a 100 gallon tank in a Chevy 3500 truck on a trip from Texas to California. Fuel IS too expensive but like the cosmetic commercials on tv that say "but we are worth it", my wife and I ARE. I will do without going out to eat before I go without camping!

Odd that fuel prices were higher in Amarillo with at least 2 of Texas biggest refineries less than a 100 miles away.
But there's also a big rail yard & lots of truck traffic on I-40 both using lots of diesel......Supply & Demand?
