Propane generator startup issues

I have a Champion 2500 Dual fuel generator. Starts up easily on gas, but on Propane I've had issues. I think I have it working now due to some comments on a YouTube video but am interested in your thoughts on what I've "learned."

One poster suggested not opening the valve on the tank all the way. This seemed to work.

Another said to open the valve slowly on the tank otherwise it might trip the tank's safety feature and cut off the flow of gas.

In general to get the gas through the regulator, through the hose and into the generator for priming (choking) is there a preferred sequence of connecting things and turning the valve on?

Any other thoughts about this situation?

Any time you open a valve on a propane cylinder you must open it slowly to avoid activating the excess flow valve in the nut assembly of the hose at the cylinder end, just like you should do for the generator. If the generator starts up properly when you do this, that was the problem because having the excess flow valve set, you will not get sufficient gas to the engine.

I have the 4500 (Champion) with the electric start and I don't do anything out of the norm. Open the bottle (I make no effort to go slow or fast, I just open it), turn the switch to run (not choke), and start it. Reading about starting issues is what pushed me to the electric start and thus far, it has been flawless and fires up really quick.
