Hang TV in Bedroom

Has anyone hung a TV in their bedroom?? Is the TV backer a myth? I have drilled like 20 holes all around where the sticker is and can't find any support. I found what I thought to be an aluminum stud but its so thin the screws don't really grab and hold secure. I thought there was supposed to be a 3/4" piece of plywood behind the wall where it says to mount the TV.

We have a 2021 Keystone Bullet 290BHS

First, stop trying to guess and stop drilling holes. Get a simple stud finder from a Home Improvement store and figure out exactly where that backer board is located, (or not located).

Second, if there is no backer at all, you can still attach the television support. You'll need to prep a good looking piece of wood. Then use Molly Bolts to attach the board to the wall. The more you use, the better it will be. Before attaching the board, apply some good construction glue to the back of the board too, (like Liquid Nails), and then attach with the Molly Bolts. Give the glue a few hours to dry and then you can attach your television arm, or holder directly to this board.

Just for an FYI, in my 2 previous campers, I did exactly this same thing, although it was on an interior wall, not an outside wall. However, I used a flat bracket, not an arm, where I could lift the television completely off and lay it on the bed when traveling. We never traveled with that television hanging on the wall. And, we never had any issues with the wall doing it this way when traveling.

I know this is an older post, but for others, you can simply use magnet to mark the 4 corners of the metal plate behind the wall in the bedroom. You can also do the same with the outside plate. We move our 32" samsung from bedroom to outside location from time to time

So yeah the "metal plate" in the wall for support was very thin aluminum. When I tried tightening up the bolts/screws they just stripped out. Basically useless. So I use some hollow wall anchors (12) and mounted a piece of wood to the wall also using some power grab adhesive. Spread the load out and mounted the mount to the wood. Painted to match the wall and its good to go.

Hello, would you happen to have any pictures of how you mounted your TV and of the parts you used? I am trying to mount a 32" on my 2022 bullet 290bhswe and the "mounting plate" is litterally in the corner. No TV could possibly use the in wall board.

I was really hoping that there would be a vertical stud along the window, No luck. So I need to make a wall plate and attach it in order to mount my TV.

Whatever you do, don’t use very long screws. Don’t ask me how I know….

Yeah, be careful with that drill bit also. We may have had to add a few more decorative vinyl swooshes to the outside.

How I did it

I think I came up withba pretty good solution for my TV hanging issue.

I ended up using a peice of 3/4 plywoood to make a new wall plate. I was able to hit the metal wall top cord with some self tapping screws and then I marked and inserted wall anchors into the luan wall board around the endges of the plywood. Seems to be working so far and it survived a short but bouncy trip down the road.

Yep

Yep this is basically what I did. I took a panel from the cabinet to Home Depot and had them match the pait color so it blends pretty well.
