Houston Loop 99 opening

The east side of Loop 99 (Grand Parkway) around Houston is opening May 19. So, you should be able to go around the north side of Houston from Mont Belvieu @ I-10 to Richmond/Rosenberg at HWY 59/I-69.
East or westbound on I-10 could avoid the worst of Houston traffic, maybe.
It'll be my new way out going north to I-45 or HWY 59.
Toll road of course.

All Houston roadways are mentioned in the Bible as an ABOMINATION.

I just went through Galveston, then backroads to San Antonio to avoid Houston. It was a few hours longer (in theory) but worth every extra minute to avoid that God forsaken city and it’s traffic. Actually a pretty enjoyable drive with nice scenery, other than the black flies that painted my truck.

Those aren't black flies. We call them "love bugs" because they attach themselves to each other to mate, I assume. They are all over the southern US. Their season is about over.
Where were you going that you went through Galveston to avoid Houston? Ain't no way.
I grew up in Houston, so to me it's not too hard to drive through it. I've pulled our trailers through it at rush hour with no issue.
One insult deserves another one back: If you gave me 10 sections of southern New Mexico, I'd give it back to you. The proverbial feces hole.

Yes, people like Houston so much we can't build roads and houses fast enough.

We took an RV out to GA, then took the long way home. Went down to Destin to Eglin AFB to relive days from the past, then along the coast over to Galveston. Actually, it was a pretty nice drive. If I had been on a time crunch, we would have gone through Houston, but figured we’d take the roads less traveled and stay off the interstate for awhile.

You won’t get an argument from me, I retired down here for the cost of living, no shoveling snow, no humidity, hurricanes, tornadoes, or earthquakes. Definitely not for the scenery. That’s why I have an RV, get the hell out of here and travel to nicer places when the weather is good. They do have good dirt track racing down here though.

I've towed across I-10 through Houston with our 40'er several times & would do it again in a minute rather than any mile of I-5 on the left coast, especially in the Seattle area, those folks can't drive for s##t.

That coastal area from Houston to Corpus Christi used to be home to huge ranches. It has its' own type of beauty..open prairie with motts of oak trees. Our next trip may be over there and to Gonzales.
Dirt tracks...I have tickets and a camping spot for the Knoxville Nationals. We went last year and watched Kyle Larson kick butt; just like he did in the spring race there. Diesel fuel bill will be a killer though. Probably take the Bigfoot since Betty isn't going.

Yeah, it's just a road, with a good possibility of jamming up. I've been in some bad traffic jams but the I-35 corridor north of San Antonio to Austin is a daily disaster.
I've flown into Seatle and driven back and forth up to Bellingham and agree with you. Must be the legal pot.

IH35 is under construction. It has been under construction since the road opened and is similarly an abomination. Going south out of San Antonio, really a nice ride but north through Austin? YUCK. I won't drive that road with my camper or on my bike. I take 281 north and then cut across somewhere if I have to go east.

When I was in Houston for medical stuff a couple years ago, I went across San Antonio on Hwy90 then over to Seguin on IH10 and then Hwy90 Alt to the South Main RV park where I had my camper for four months. It was a bumper pull and I took my GS1000G in the truck bed and rode it around. Houston drivers were aggressive during the day but at night, traffic laws (like lights and speed limits) were obviously suspended.

If going to Galveston, we take Alt90 to Hwy6 in Sugar Land. A bit of traffic there but not too bad.

Most roads cities don’t bother me at all anymore. When I transported I had to take several RVs into Pomona. After that experience, nothing is much of a concern.

Yeah 35 south out of San Antonio to Laredo is a nice ride. I did it every other week for a while until we had to start flying. Company policy, too many hours driving. I hated that.
I don't get out much after dark in Houston. Too easy for trouble to find you.
