Grey tank vent cap

I am thinking about running my solar lines from the roof, through the grey vent pipe into the basement. (Yes, I'll fish the wire out through a small hole at the ceiling of the basement) The cap on the top of the pipe says "PULL TO REMOVE". Can you actually pull or twist and pull this cap off? I don't want to damage the top of the vent pipe. Thanks

That hole filled with sealant is covering a screw that holds the vent cap.

I have found that a lot of times the vent pipe is a very tight fit and solar cables may not fit. I often times run them down the refer vent, then drill a hole in the “floor” of the refer cabinet and route as needed.

You will find after removing the cap that the base is designed to fit snug around the vent pipe and you’ll have to remove it also to route the cables without losing the top seal.

Thanks Chuckster57. I have seen the refer vent used as well. However on my rear kitchen unit the refer box is above the wheel wells and on the far side of the main entry & steps. It would be a tough cable run from there. But good to know it is an option. Oh the things we do...

Drill a hole in the side of the vent pipe up top and put your wires in and fill with sealant. Drill towards the rear would be best so driving in rain would have less chance of leaking into the pipe. Even if a few drops got in, it is a vent pipe after all. I would be less keen to have moisture get into the refrigerator vent.

If you pit the wire inside the vent pipe, how are you going to get the wire out of the vent pipe at the bottom? You'll need to drill a hole at the bottom and fish it out. I've snaked electric lines through hallow walls this way, from the attic to somewhere on the wall, and even in a stick and brick house, that's a challenge to do.
