Supply and demand.........increasing diesel demand, more gasoline vs. diesel in crude oil and more gasoline vs. diesel production capacity.

Leaving on our maiden voyage in the AM, so I filled up the truck prior to hooking up.
I normally just go about my business of not looking at the prices, ignorance is bliss.
The station here use to have an ethanol free pump, but they now have them at EVERY PUMP.

We have lots of boats here, 4 stroke big outboards, ethanol ruins them.

Mine is an inboard 3.0 chevy block that will run on just about anything

However, I noticed that ethanol free gas is even CHEAPER than diesel....

I guess the cost of fuel is cutting into usage, as I know as fact the roads are not as bad as normal traffic while traveling, but trucking still needs to continue on, so the industry is using that fact to offset the loss on other fuels.

What most people aren't aware of is the volume of fuel used on a given day by commercial vehicles and the cost of registration that is also associated with road taxes.

The plates on a class 8 truck can run between $1600-$2600 depending on the state. And then there's the trailer tag. It's not that diesel is taxed at a higher rate but many commercial trucks will often burn through 100-150 gallons of fuel PER DAY, EVERY DAY!

This is not a common occurrence with gas powered cars and light trucks. So when it's all said and done it's not unusual to pay between $10K and $20K a year or more on taxes for a semi truck. And that's before you figure in truck payments that may be around $1000 per week and insurance, which is usually $200 a week or more.

But then, that's why shipping cost are so high now. Our owner/operators are making $400K-$450K before all the deductions nowadays.
