Buying the cart before the horse newbie

Hello all - Entering retirement age and my wife and I decided on trying the RV life. Have access to a chunk of lakeside land in NH so went out and purchased a used Keystone Springdale 298BHS. No truck, no RV experience whatsoever but willing and able to give it a go. So much to learn it makes my head hurt.

Found this forum and its my new best friend.

Welcome and congrads on retirement and the new rv. Good helpful folks that are always helping others and giving an honest opinion. I believe two or more heads are always better than one and sometimes you just need to run a few things by someone else; so there is really no dumb questions.

Well, I am loathe to buy a new vehicle and eat the sticker shock. Get one that will haul your new trailer... it looks like your gross vehicle weight can get up to around 10K lbs so get a truck that is MORE than capable of pulling that weight. I know a sales person will likely tell you a base 1/2 ton can pull it but you said NH and I think they have hills.

One word of caution... that is a bunk house model and those models encourage camping kids to come along if you have such. Having kids come along turns a peaceful and relaxing camping trip into a crazy time hehe

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your purchase. If you are thinking of setting it up on your land, there are rv transportation companies that will deliver and set it up. One step at a time right now until you decide if it's a seasonal set up or if you want to hit the road. Either way, you found the right place to share and learn. Welcome!

Already set it up for the most part but still haven't spent a night in it. Plan on leaving it in one place this season (septic tie-in, water and power available) so I can relax and take our time on what comes next. Have a few friends and family big pickup truck owners,, one who delivered it to its present site but won't be "that guy" who takes advantage of the situation. We're happy with the RV, and look forward to eventually hitting the road. Thanks all. Between a gazillion youtube videos and this valuable learning resource forum, I should be fine.
