Stereo/DVD System

Hubby wants to update the surround system throughout Fifth Wheel. Any ideas? He is a music junkie...drummer for 30+ years. He wants to update with something that is 12v compatible of course.

We have a nice Sony 12VDC car stereo/CD, a 120VAC Bluray DVD, a sound bar and subwoofer. While it's not "surround sound", it does a really nice job with various different settings for both music, movies, sports, tv. etc. And when you turn on the speakers in the garage too it's pretty clost to ture surround sound. Only thing it needs is an amp, which they stopped putting in this year, although my neighbors might appreciate that at times.

I'd go with a good aftermarket car radio, which will be 12VDC. Then there's lots of small surround sound systems out there, although finding one that is 12V compatible might be your limiting factor.

If I were doing a sound upgrade project, I would stick with car audio "stuff"... 12V compatible and NOT plagued by the dreaded "its for an RV, so we charge 400% what it's worth" syndrome.

As a matter of fact, there was just a thread here a few days ago with pics... Someone updating theirs with amps and car head unit. Check the Mod and Upgrade sub forum here. Should be on the first page it was so recent.

The TV is 120V, so I wouldn't be too worried about not being able to find a 12V surround system.

upgrading system

you probably need to look at a home system which is a 110 voltage. I would not look at auto systems.

If you don't know what is what get on crutchfield and then call a rep. there and they can offer you a number of options. Surround sound systems go for $100 into the $$$$$$thousands.
