Bunk and additional seating mod
I have an Avalanche 341TG. The common area has a sofa/sleeper and 4 chairs and a dinette. I have found that traveling with my DW and two girls that there are not enough space for all of us to sit comfortably. We purchased a couple of bean bags to sit on the floor but they turned out to be too uncomfortable for us.
We considered buying a longer sofa and removing the dinette since it is difficult to use as the space allotted is tight and the chairs hang half way on and half way off a slide making them canted. My DW came up with a brilliant idea to remove the dinette and take the extra sofa/sleeper from the rear bunk and put it where the dinette was and then build another bunk in the now open space in the rear using 1x12's and a plywood top attached with hinges to allow access to the space below. Topping that off with a 4 1/2" memory foam mattress. My DW will be in charge of staining the exposed wood to match the current color.
I have found all the materials I need and have already removed the dinette and placed the sofa/sleeper in its place. I love all the seating space now! We have enough room left in the slide to add a small coffee table between them.
I will be taking photos and posting them soon of the bunk build just in case someone may be interested in doing the same and of the finished living area mods.
I looked online and could not really find someone who has done this yet so I am guessing this will be by trial and error.
I am hoping this will turn out great! Just curious, has anyone placed two sofas in the living area yet and if sohow did it work out for you without a dinette?
Thanks,
Glenn

Right..lol
Ok finally got some time to start this project. Dinette removed. Both sofa sleepers in the living area. Started building the bunk. I used 1x12 quality stainable boards and made a 72" x 33" frame and then had a sheet of quality MDF cut to the same size then attached it with hinges. This allows me to lift the matress and use all the area underneath for storage. I have the from 1 x 12 board off and I am in the process of staining it tonight. Hopefully it will look pretty nice when I am done!
So far I love the new look and it works for our family needs. I will post some pics up when I get the front stained and the matress installed.

Finally done! Everything is built and stained. Just waiting on the new mattress. I think overall this has improved our quality of life together when we camp!

Nice job! Thanks for sharing the pics. With no dinette we assume you'll eat sitting on the sofas with trays? Good solution for more seating.

Yes we plan on using trays. The dinette was always so cramped anyways so it works best for us with this change. We sat around last night "acting" like we were camping and felt great!...

That turned out really nice-I love the idea! One of my biggest concerns was wondering how as a family of four we would comfortably sit and watch a movie together, something we love to do. This would definitely solve that problem. And like I mentioned on the thread I started, we would put the table and chairs in the bunkhouse where the couch used to be to have for the girls to do schoolwork or for us to eat on or whatever. Thanks for the idea!
Are you a full-time family?

Not yet...sadly. We put 8000 miles on her last year and wish it was more! I have 18 months until I retire and then we will be full timing it. Can't wait!

Hey that looks really great. You could buy the table brackets that mount to the floor. The standard ones that take the poles, mount in front of couch. Then buy the table and poles. Then set up and remove as needed. May create trip problem. But something like that could work. Maybe even something flush with floor. My wheels are turning. Don't forget to get the patent on your new trailer layout.LOL. keystone going to borrow it.

The table and chairs are awful in the Avalanche. Were changing ours out with a booth. Just need to make appointment at the dealership for the install.
