If you have the OEM pucks mounted in your truck, there is no disadvantage. If you have to have the B&W turnover ball mounted below the bed, then you have that added cost which makes it a pretty expensive hitch. I've had both, the original turnover and now the version with the pucks. Both ways have been great. The older turnover arrangement was rated for 18K but now upgraded to 20K, the puck version is rated at 20K. The head unit is identical between the versions. I have both bases so can go either way with my next "last" truck. The only problems I have had was a stripped U-bolt that holds the base to the turnover pin and a stripped 1/2" tension bolt. The U-bolt was replaced at no charge by B&W, the tension bolt from my stock of Gr8 fasteners (theirs was a Gr5).

I installed the Turn Over Ball Hitch in my 2016 GMC 3500 LB. Took about 4-5 hrs.....read & follow the instructions exactly!!! Being able to break down the Companion Hitch into 2 pieces makes it much easier to remove/install. Both are built like a tank! Also, no drilling, the GMC is pre-drilled.

I have the B&W Companion 3600(25k rating) for my factory pucked Ram 3500 limited. Nothing but positives to say about it and I have my bed back in less than 5 mins. Easy in, easy out! do it!

If you are installing it, make sure you just start the bolts under the truck, do not tighten them. The bar has to be moved away from the receiver plate to install the 2 bolts near the spring. If you tighten any of them too soon, you will need to back them out to finish....

I've been happy with mine and the the Andersen Ultimate 5er (24K) that attaches to it. If you need/want a gooseneck hitch the B&W turn over ball is excellent.
