Camprounds on the Oregon Coast and North

So, we are in the early stages of planning a summer trip. We will be joined by another couple. Our initial thoughts were to hit the Oregon coast anywhere from Newport Oregon and head North. My wife thought there was camping on Vashon Island WA, but a quick search didn't turn anything up for me.

So with these points in mind:
outdoors
fishing
golf
good food
no children

Looking for recommendations from the forum family with any amount of experience. We would like to be settled somewhere over the 4th of July with a decent fireworks display.

I will be traveling from MT and they will be coming from CO (traveling the last week of June till weekend after the 4th of July)

The reason for Newport and Northward is the other couple hit Newport and went south last summer.

Let me know if anyone has any questions or ideas.

Your requirements for campgrounds fall apart when you want 'no children'. 4th of July and fireworks alone just scream kids galore, so you might want to give some thought about that.

True and I would agree. However in my case my son is serving our great nation overseas and my daughter well she's 18, a senior, getting ready for college, and she would like to think about it... Haha. Hope she decides to come along!

There are many great campgrounds and RV parks all along the coast...but you have ruled them all out with the No Children. Can't think of any +55 places along the coast. Too bad because all the state parks in OR are wonderful...but all are full of kids.

Two of our favorites are Bullard's Beach and South Beach. Nice, clean parks. Sightseeing, biking, hiking, great food in Newport and Bandon both just a short drive from the CG. Neither CG is 'right on the beach', but, just a short walk or bike ride away. Bullard's is the cleanest Oregon CG we've visited. When we arrived, the site had been raked and groomed like a golf course! Camp sites were roomy - had no trouble with our little Cougar (32' with opposing slides).

We liked Bullards Beach, but there were some very pushy raccoons in the campground. They would actually come out in the daytime and climb up on the table to see if there was anything for them to eat (there wasn't). This was a nice, clean campground, and quite quiet.

Nehalem Bay was the worst as far as children all over the place. It was nearly impossible to drive to the campsite without having to stop for young, unsupervised bicyclers who never even looked around to see if there were cars on the road with them. This campground was also the worst we had been in as far as the little graffiti artists drawing all over everything with sidewalk chalk.

We usually stay at Beachside in the central coast area and then move to one of the campgrounds further south for the rest if our trip.

And yes, I know I sound like an old crab, but teaching campground etiquette to the next generation would make for a more enjoyable stay for all of us.

We thought Fort Stevens State Park between Seaside and Astoria was beautiful and had some great beaches. There's also a KOA right across the street from it that has more amenities than we've ever seen at any private campground - one indoor and one outdoor pool, separate-from-the-existing-pools water park coming this year, small restaurant on-site with free pancake breakfast, miniature golf... Fort Stevens also has a nice lake. We saw lots and lots of moose in the area.

Koko, there is not a single moose within about 320 miles of Ft. Stevens park. I am guessing you found the resident herd of Elk.

Shov, I am guessing here that you mean your not taking children, not that you will not stay where there are children.
I also say check out South Beach St. park near Newport. Take a fishing trip into the ocean. You can fish off the jetty although I never would. Nearly every summer people are hit by waves and tossed into the ocean from them along the Oregon coast.
Astoria has ft. Stevens as mentioned but, get a reservation in now for the 4th it is the most or 2nd most booked state park in Oregon. For fireworks watching, the best ever is at Long Beach across the river. You will be with thousands parked on the 20 miles of beach many shooting off rockets purchased only from the Indian reservations along with the city display. After you think the area is fogged in due to all the black gun powder smoke. Been there several years and it is easy to get on and off the beaches, lots of police helping direct traffic.

I wanted to clear my question up a bit, cause I think I created some confusion. When I said no kids, it meant I wasn't taking any with me. So nearby attraction for kids wasn't a requirement. There can be kids in the CG or area...

FYI, I just got a mailer from Oregon state parks. Now you can go online 24/7 and 9 months before the camp date to reserve a spot. I do not have their email. Phone is 800-551-6949 likely only answered 9-5 weekdays.

For a campground in the Long Beach, WA area, check out Cape Disappointment State Park in Ilwaco. The sites are large enough to accommodate good size rigs. It's just across the river from Astoria, which is an interesting town to explore.

They use Reserve America so you don't have to call. reserveamerica.com
