Bunk and additional seating mod
I have an Avalanche 341TG. The common area has a sofa/sleeper and 4 chairs and a dinette. I have found that traveling with my DW and two girls that there are not enough space for all of us to sit comfortably. We purchased a couple of bean bags to sit on the floor but they turned out to be too uncomfortable for us.
We considered buying a longer sofa and removing the dinette since it is difficult to use as the space allotted is tight and the chairs hang half way on and half way off a slide making them canted. My DW came up with a brilliant idea to remove the dinette and take the extra sofa/sleeper from the rear bunk and put it where the dinette was and then build another bunk in the now open space in the rear using 1x12's and a plywood top attached with hinges to allow access to the space below. Topping that off with a 4 1/2" memory foam mattress. My DW will be in charge of staining the exposed wood to match the current color.
I have found all the materials I need and have already removed the dinette and placed the sofa/sleeper in its place. I love all the seating space now! We have enough room left in the slide to add a small coffee table between them.
I will be taking photos and posting them soon of the bunk build just in case someone may be interested in doing the same and of the finished living area mods.
I looked online and could not really find someone who has done this yet so I am guessing this will be by trial and error.
I am hoping this will turn out great! Just curious, has anyone placed two sofas in the living area yet and if sohow did it work out for you without a dinette?
Thanks,
Glenn
