iN*Command/Dometic Gateway

2019 Alpine 3400R. I have a problem with my iN*Command starting my Dometic AC's with the screen reads 100 degrees, they started this morning when it was registering 98 degrees. I have an article that talks about a gateway and a way to test.

Your article link links back to your own comment.

This is a known problem with a particular model of Dometic gateway. It also will not start the furnace if the ambient temperature drops below some temperature (maybe 50°?)

The solution is to have the gateway replaced with a model that doesn't have this fault. There are other threads discussing this topic on the board.

Hope your 2019 is still in warranty, so you can have it done for free.

Heater won't start if below 40 degrees. Yeah, this is a warranty item. Contact your dealer and get it replaced.

You could also perform a few mechanical checks that might solve the issue..
.. turn DC off and locate BCM and turn off
.. reseat CANBUS plugs on BCM... telephone looking type plugs
.. get up on roof and pull both AC covers
.. locate gateway for each AC and reseat the telephone cable connection
.. note position of dip switch setting and cycle the switches off and on and return as previously set

NOTE... do the above items with battery power removed AND shore power removed because the gateway modules have 12 volts DC to them anytime battery or shore power is on

.. Restore shore and battery power
.. turn BCM power back on
.. turn DC on

Now see what HVAC does... may not help but often clears up issues on the CANBUS ... communication line and protocol that is used

Might not help at all but costs is nada

The issue described by the OP is a well-known issue with defective gateway boards. Could it be some other problems which just also happens to cause it to stop working at the exact same temp? I would say the chances are astronomically low.

Plus the universal response from the manufacturer is to replace the gateway unit. If they could make the problem disappear permanently by having their dealers' mechanic stand on his head, wiggle his nose, and whistle Dixie, they'd be doing that instead to save money.

Should have been a recall on the batch of gateway boards that caused this issue. Sometimes it’s not the gateway ... it’s a poor communication link on a poorly made telephone cable that is solid core wire and should never have been used in an application that bounces down the road... a 120 volt light bulb and a few minutes of troubleshooting the CANBUS signals can quickly isolate whether issue is the gateway or something else..

Trouble is most don’t have a clue how to TS the system properly

The Zone 1 control module is connected to furnace. Zone 2 control module is simply piggy backed and has nothing to do with control of furnace
