Gfci

I am confused over two 110 plugs I have at the back of the trailer (behind the captain chairs). One plug sits proud of the back wall, and is non-standard spaced duplex plug (I can’t plug a power block into it); one is just a basic duplex receptacle.

This is a 2008 Keystone Sprinter Copper Canyon 5er - 30amp without an inverter.

Why would there be the GFCI and why would it sit out from the wall?

I will try to post photos when I am back home as I can’t figure out how to load photos from my iPhone.

Almost sounds like the “proud” outlet is an add-on. Pics would help.

Trevor, take pic with your phone and email it to yourself, from a PC used the Go Advanced feature and use the Attach File/Manage Attachments button to scroll to the place on your PC you downloaded the picture to. You have to click the Upload button to have it appear in your post. Your description of a "non standard duplex plug" needs to be seen as I can't guess what this means.

Trailer receptacles are often referred to as "speed outlets" because they don't require a box to set in and the wires set in m etal blades, they aren't screwed into the receptacle. Therefore they are about 1/2 the depth of a standard outlet. The GFI does not come in that configuration and require a standard depth outlet box. Sinse trailer walls are not studded out with 2X4 wood the walls are to shallow to hold the box and outlet so they use the adapter you see there.

Edit: here's a speed wire outlet https://www.amazon.com/RV-Designer-S...6188262&sr=8-6

Looking at your pics the “proud” is a GFCI outlet. The outlets are spaced further apart to allow for the reset button.

Bet that telephone jack comes in handy! If I had one, I could hook my modem into it!

Looks to me like there have been some owner mods in the past. Why that gfi plug is there would probably only be known to that person....unless you are going to put an extension cord on it and work with an electrical appliance at the sink or stand outside in the rain using something electric...

A owner mod is what makes the most sense, but I don’t know why one would have one there (back corner - end of unit).

Prior owners had done some odd changes to the unit, but this particular plug does not look like the prior owner’s work.

Maybe that outlet is in that type of box because there might be a wall stud in the way and that was the easiest fix.

No, that's not a surface mounted box (look up wire mold surface mounted to see the difference. These are very common in trailers, it's the only practical way to mount a GFCI outlet in a shallow wall. wall
