Kings Canyon/Sequoia Natl Parks
Hi,
I am about ready to give up. After 2 weeks of searching I can't find a campground we can get into to go to both parks.
Tried Lodgepole & Dorst - no luck.
Then Hume and - no luck.
Want a park where we can stay to do both parks and not have to go
south then north to see one park then the other.
Any suggestions out there..... I am open to any and all suggestions at
this point.
Hook ups or not - doesn't matter to us.
Thanks, Jo

Camp Grounds in Sequoia
Jo
We use to stay at the Stony Creek Camp ground in Sequoia. It was really close the Kings Canyon and also Lodge Pole. Just make sure you don't leave any coolers visable in your truck because Old Stony (a 500 pound Black Bear) will break your windows to get at it.
Sites are large and the host's were always nice.

Unfortunately NO sites available when we want to go which is 6/13 for 3 nights.
I, as of now, assume we are doing an overnighter at a Passport America park, Sierra Trails RV in Mojave
& then go to Sequoia RV Ranch in Three Rivers (which is on 198)
for 3 nights
& then try my hand at getting into (since no reservations available) at
Azalea or Sunset campgrounds at Kings Canyon......
Someone said I can't drive on 198 with out trailer - too many switchbacks
and grades too steep - what do you think?
DH doesn't like long, steep grades, or switchbacks as he worries about the tranny overheating and our 3:73 gears take a beating when we can't go more than 35-40 mph up the hills. At least the Banks exhaust brake helps on the way down........ ha ha ha.....
any thoughts,
Jo

Hwy 198
JO
There are a lot of switch backs and grades but nothing that will cause your truck any problem, "BUT" if your going to do any sight seeing or exploring you will "NOT" find anywhere to pull over and park pulling your 5ver. I would recommend leaving it in a camp ground or you will be very disapointed and miss a tour of a life time.

The plan is coming together.
We are staying at Sequoia RV Ranch to go into Sequoia
and after that we will chance it that we can get a spot
at Kings canyon at either Azalea or Sunset CG's inside
the park.
If not, I am sure we'll find something outside the park.
We don't plan to take the fiver inside the park under any
circumstance to Sequoia and only to Kings if we have a
camping site.

Just to reply to my own thread:
We stayed inside King's Canyon at Sunset CG. We had site 69 and it was a large site. Lots of shade.
We ended up staying here 4 days - one day just for resting - it was $18 a night with no hook ups. Loved it there.
After that we went to Yosemite. No sites inside for us - as all booked up.
It was a zoo up there anyway - glad we stayed outside the park.
