Oven Question

My wife has never been real happy with the ovens in any of the 3 units we have owned to date. However, not to long ago I saw a tip in Trailer Life suggesting that the oven would heat much more efficiently and evenly if you put a pizza stone in it.

Any truth to this?

I must admit that I am WAY OUT of my comfort zone when it comes to baking anything. However, if the stone does in fact even out the heat then I would think you would use it for everything.

Not "on" the stone. On the rack. The stone sits on the metal just above the burner.

I got a round pizza stone from Target that sits on the bottom metal plate just above the burner. I no longer burn stuff when I cook in the oven. It spreads the heat around so it’s not so focused dead center above the burner. Some people remove the stone during travel so it doesn’t slide around and scratch the oven bottom.

I think Hank has real stone-ware for baking, like the shoebox-shaped one for baking bread, etc.

Nope... just a plain old pizza stone. Works great.

Any Non Glazed tile from the local hardware store will work. Usually less expensive than a pizza stone. We remove ours for travel. As previously pointed out, they can bang around and scratch the oven pretty good.

I tried a terra-cotta floor tile, but it cracked on first use. The pizza stone has been working great for me, so I’m glad I forked over the extra money.

Ok, I guess it wasn’t hankpage, but I thought someone here used the fancy stone bakeware stuff.

pictures please

I've read most posts on this subject and would like to try the pizza tile but i would love to see a picture just to make sure I would be placing the tiles in the right place. Seems not all oven configurations are the same.

I found a large picture online. I place my pizza stone just under the wire rack so it’s sitting on the metal shelf with all the holes around its perimeter. My pizza stone is round so it doesn’t obstruct the holes, yet still dissipates the from the central burner.
