I'd check the heater bypass, make sure its open. Also, my 318SAB has a switch outside for the electric. The one inside is for the gas only. My 2cents.

If the lights between the electric and gas switch it only come on when you have a fault(ie no gas possible no water). The rest of the time its off. Have you checked that the tank has water in it?
Good luck.

On my bullet the light is off on gas as well unless the bottles are empty. Do you hear the heater trying to fire up?

I'd still check at the water heater outside for a switch. I had a flagstaff fiver with two switches for the electric water heater, one inside and one outside...

It sounds like the heater element has gone. You can have an electrician check that you are getting power to the back of it or remover it and see what it looks like. How old is the heater? If it old it could be corroded in so be careful if you decided to remove it. Also check for another switch/plug first as recormended in other reply. Good luck.

I also had a small rocker switch on the actual hot water heater itself. The switch turned out to be bad. If you have a Multimeter and a couple wrenches, it's pretty easy to troubleshoot the electrical part. Start testing for current at the element itself first then move back along the chain till you get power. REMEMBER, it's 110 volts to the hot water heater so be carefull about it.

Or, just pay someone to do it for you.
