Power Awning motor cross reference?

Has anyone tried crossing their $170 awning motor to match up to a cheaper version such as a power window motor. I cant help but think there is a $40 window motor out there that will match up. I think when I get mine out and get some numbers off it im gonna see what I can come up with.

If your awning is a Solara awning, there is a "GM window motor" that reportedly works.

Do a forum search for "awning motor" and many threads will come up. Here's a quoted post from one of them:

Great tip, I had the same Problem and went on Rock Auto and purchased the least expensive one. Part # VL42005. It works great. Cost $13 + shipping
But you should look at, If you scroll down on the same search and you will find a Delco Part #11M17. This one has the "Unique Self-Locking Safety Design" Which may be the one we should buy. $36 + Shipping. Still a great savings form $215.
Hope this helps everyone.

If your awning is not a Solara, I don't know "which motor will work" but no doubt there's a cheaper alternative source than an RV dealer.

Thanks John. Doing some looking now. Seems to be a cheap alternative in the $20 range. My awning says LCI and after some research it looks like that is the same company that makes Solera.

Tom,

If your awning says LCI, then it's a Solara. That's the only awning Lippert produces...

This is what I found: a 1994 Chevy Lumina driver side window motor is an exact fit and costs about $11-$12 on Rock Auto

Just be aware that the motor does not have the manual override in case of failure while the awning is extended. That's why I bought a spare. Very easy and quick to replace. Any questions or concerns PM me.

Thanks Jim, only question is on the plug. Is it a match or will I have to wire in a new plug?

No worries on the plug connections. I believe when I installed the replacement motor, it had the same plug. It even came with two different connectors if needed. Easy install. Make sure you secure the awning in the full retracted position. I used rope to secure the uprights in position.
