Battery charge rate on shore power

Just wonder if anyone knows how many amps go to charging the batteries when a 5er is plugged into shore power? We have an 08 3400RL. And does the battery connect switch have to be in the on position for shore power to get to the batteries? And is it wrong to assume that it is an intelligent charger and stops charging the batteries when they are full?

Thanks!

The battery disconnect switch has to be on for the battery to be connected to the converter. You would have to look at your converter to see what kind it is to determine what it does as far as charging goes. Look at your power panel it should have a model number and manufacturer and then you can look it up to see what it does.

For instance mine shown in the picture is a WFCO 8955 good for 55 amps and it has a three stage charger in it so it will correctly charge your battery.

There are several brands of converter/charger that have been used through the years. "Luxury" trailers in the early 2000's advertised 45 amp, 2 stage converter/chargers. Today's "mid-level" trailer has a 55 or 65 amp 3 stage converter/charger. "high end" models can have 85 or 95 amp 3 or 4 stage chargers with computer controlled charging "programs" for Lithium or AGM batteries as well as protective charging programs for lead acid batteries. What might (or might not) be in your 2008 model is questionable. As suggested above, open the door on your power center and it should have information on brand/model number. Use that information to google the information on that system.

If you have any questions, post them here and someone will help you interpret the information, but right now, without knowing what's in your trailer, any answers regarding charge levels, trickle charging, whether your system is safe to leave turned on, etc, would be purely speculation.
