Adding Stowage

Just picked up our 2014 Keystone Fusion Chrome 404 3 weeks ago and now we have to add stowage in the garage. Our old Weekend Warrior was 10 feet shorter with twice the stowage. We are looking for the best way to anchor the cabinets to the wall. One tall one about 50” in front of the washer/dryer hook-up and the others are only 15 inches tall so I’m pretty comfortable using Velcro on them. My concern with the tall cabinet is drilling into the wall and hitting a wire or pipe. Do wall anchors work best or is there another secret I am not aware of? Thanks for reading.

If you are mounting on an OUTSIDE wall, be very careful as there are wires embedded in the foam sandwich between the inside luan and the outside Filon. If you are mounting on an interior wall, it should be a very simple task to locate the studs. Look closely at the wall and locate the "line of staples" used to secure the luan paneling. You could also use a "stud finder" or simply push against the wall with your fingers until you meet with resistance.

I'd caution you not to install any cabinet with wall anchors embedded in the luan paneling only. It's 1/8" thick and with the vibrations/stresses of towing your RV, anything relatively heavy won't stay secure. We've had picture frames and lightweight battery operated clocks pull the wall anchors out of the thin luan paneling.

Find the studs and mount anything you want secure to them. Don't rely on wall anchors (in luan) to secure anything as heavy as a cabinet.

On our storage shelves (not cabinets) we used wall anchors and have not had a problem yet.Hope this helps you out.

I was thinking of industrial Velcro on the outside walls. I have a roll given to me and you have to push hard to even get it to lock and the Velcro would not hurt the wall paper if I wanted to remove it for any reason. I normally remove the stuff with a little heat and pull. Thank you for the advice I am cautious with drilling holes after I drilled a hole in the master bedroom of my Weekend Warrior and the bit came out in the shower (talk about thin walls). The last thing I want to do is do any irreversible damage.
