These rigs using DEF are tuned to run leaner, and the DEF is injected into the exhaust to reduce NOX in the exhaust. There is a catalytic reaction that the DEF works to do all this. These rigs also have a systems that traps soot, and will go into a regen cycle that has to happen when the engine is hot and running to burn off the soot. So, with both of these systems, the fuel mileage is amazing, we get 22 mpg on the highway without the trailer, and anywhere between 9 and 13 with our Montana in tow.

2015 Duramax
I took the plunge last weekend and traded in my 2006 3500HD for a new 2015 3500HD with the Duramax/Allison Tran. It gets delivered tomorrow. 52K. A trip next week is planned for about 1200 miles. Short break-in drive. I'll let everyone know what I think after I get back. I've owned a Duramax ever since they come out in the Chevy trucks. Each one has been better than the other.

I was wondering if these prices you guys are quoting are for a 2 or 4 wheel drive truck?

2015 Durmax
Mine is 4 wheel drive, crew cab, diesel/Allison tranny and dually with long bed. My personal opinion is the best truck to pull a Keystone Raptor loaded with toys

I use Blue DEF as well, can get the stuff just about anywhere that sells parts/oil these days. I typically grab a couple jugs from Walmart when I buy my Delvac for the next oil change. I've heard a lot of people say to buy 2010 or earlier to avoid the DEF, but it is such a minor thing to deal with, those who give that advice have never owned one.
Additionally, the exhaust brake has been around since 2011 model same as the DEF. You will love the 2015!

2015 Duramax
I got mine all hooked up yesterday and ready to go on a Tenn. Tour for a few weeks. I finally got tired of the low battery problem problem I've had on this 5er and put a battery shutoff switch in that kills all 12volt coming into batts and out. I'll be testing for the next few days to see if that stops my battery drain! Or I'll be buying some more batteries!

I love my 2013 Chevrolet 2500 HD.... The blue DEF is really no big deal.... cheaper to add yourself than to have the Dealership to add. After changing the Cold Air Induction and Exhaust.... I am getting 22 MPG.... (not pulling) 13-15 pulling the Fuzion..... Which I am quiet happy... I did not expect...

Keep in mind DEF has a shelf life which gets much shorter with heat. Starts at 2yrs and if left in box of truck in southern temps it can be as short as 2months.

Hi Jeff,
I agree about the DEF. Just pour it in every few thousand miles. Not very expensive.
Which intake and exhaust did you install?

2015 Chevy Silverado - Crew Cab - 4x4 - Duramax/Allison.
Towed Laredo (About 12.5k loaded) to Dover, De and back - avg 11.3mpg. Used 2.5 gal of DEF - dealer obviously did not fill it prior to delivery, as I had to top it off at 900 miles.

2015 diesel/allison Chevy
Took the new 2015 Chevy 3500 on a 1400 mile trip with our Raptor 332 TS and I am quit pleased. My 8 yr old Chevy dually 3500 crew cab was an exceptional truck, but I'm glad I updated. This thing has some balls. I had no problem pulling any of the mountains on I-75 headed south. Once we got of the road we had no problems pulling the mountain trails, some at 7 to 8 degrees and no heated tranny which got 156 degrees one time. I did use more DEF than expected. 75% at 700 miles, but I don't know that it was full when I started the trip. My 2006 was much quieter than anything on on the road back in 2006, but I'm saying this 2015 compares to my Prius. Unbelievable how much less noise this new truck makes I am HAPPY.
