New Ram Eco-Diesel?

Is it True? The 2014 Ram 1500 will offer a new, 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine?

There was an article out a few months ago that made that claim. Search this forum for it, it was discussed.

Yes the Ram1500 pick up truck will have the VM Motori engine. I believe this is a $4500 option in the pick up truck. This is the same engine that is being used in the Jeep Grand Cherokee for 2014. The engine design is a Bosch common
rail design for the fuel system at 29,000 psi delivery pressure to the injectors. It is using aluminum heads with a compacted graphite iron block with a bed plate.
This should meet a lot of people's need for towing smaller trailers and those who want a diesel for fuel economy.

Yes, that's the scuttle on the street. However, as we discussd months ago (use the search feature to find the thread) none of the specs as to GCWR, GVW, Payload or Towing capacity have been announced. This new offering from Chrysler has the potential to be a real advantage to the towing community or it could be a complete "belly flop" depending on the capabilities of the platform Chrysler wraps around the new diesel.

I'm just a bit skeptical of a diesel with more than one row of pistons.

I'm not really poking at the Ford and GM guys as much as just speaking from my own personal experience. I know that comment was about as volatile as a Molotov cocktail, but my experience with Cummins 903's, 555's, 505's, Detroit's 892, 871, 853, as well as the 6V renditions of those engines and the Cat 3208 and 3408 was nothing less than horrible. Those engines did not hold a candle to the old tried and true Cummins 855, Cat 3406 and even the 671 Detroit's.
At the same time, I had a Jeep with a 2.8 inline four VM Motori diesel. It was a light weight in the dependability department compared to my Cummins. Being a Cummins man, I should have known better, Detroit Diesel owns much of VM Motori.

Now if they'd just wrap a solidly built body and frame around those inline cylinders... and give the mix a solid front end that splay the front tire out at 45 degrees after 70K miles.

I sure do miss rain gutters and wing windows. Pretty truck. Under 160 hp but with almost limitless potential.

Indeed! And there is enough room under the hood for another engine.

Thats cause there is a real engine under the hood . Fix for this is Carli ball joints of which you will never need to ever replace again.

Well.......I have a Ford 6.7 PS and had 2 different 7.3 PS and I think they might be stretching the mpg's a bit!! Neither of mine would get 20 unloaded much less pulling ANYTHING. Glad he has a million miles on it, but that is definitely not ALL the story.
