Vinyl Door Trim

2016 Hideout 28RLSE
I have an issue with the vinyl door trim staying in the tracks. I believe the doors are all Lippert. Nothing wrong with the doors, other than the trim at the rounded corners. I've replace the trim on all doors twice. Including the access doors. The trim is black. The trim keeps popping out at the curved corners. Next thing you know, its dragging down the highway. I went out to check it in storage the other day, and the vinyl trim on every door had popped off yet again. The dealer has been a great help, but he is kind of scratching his head as am I. Any ideas. Thanks
Fred

Is the vinyl you're talking about the "soft squeeze to install" type or is it the rigid "snaps in place" type ???

If it's the squeeze kind, buy the next bigger size. It comes on a roll, usually 25' is the shortest roll available. If it's the rigid kind, apply a few dabs of clear silicone inside the edges of the aluminum track and reinstall the "clean and dry" strips, let the silicone dry and it should stay in place.

Yes it is the soft squeeze type. And I have gone to a little bit bigger and a little heavier duty. I am thinking this stuff expands and contracts so much with the heat and cold. Almost has me thinking there needs to be some sort of expansion joint?

The .75" insert fits the 1/2" slot, 1" insert fits the 3/4" slot. There is a 1.25" available (very hard to find) that is much thicker. It usually has to be "forced under the flange" and once installed, needs to be "ripped out" as it won't come out easily. I've only seen it available in white, but I'd guess it's made in other colors.

You might want to inspect your aluminum molding, when it was bent to the radius, it may have deformed the flanges on one side so the vinyl can't get a good seat ??? That's just a guess, but you may need to take a rubber hammer and tap the radius to get the flange to close enough to get a better purchase ??? Here's the cross section, you can see if the vinyl doesn't seat fully or if the aluminum gaps too much, it won't hold as well.....

I wouldn't use a lot of silicone on the soft vinyl insert, that stuff will need to be replaced in 3 or 4 years and silicone will make that job much harder....

Maybe if you can find the 1.25" insert, it would hold better ???? Just a WAG though.....

And make sure you install as in the photo. When I replaced some on a canopy a few years ago I put it in the way I thought it should go, backward. Not correct, the outer edges bend foreword or out toward you. . It slipped out rather quickly.
