I'm pullin my 35 footer with a 1500. I'm under my max safe towing by about 1000 lbs, but my hitch weight is close to max(50lbs under). It tows pretty good, but I am going to replace the factory tires soon(a little "squishy"), with E-rated tires. I'll upgrade to a 3/4 ton one day, but for now, I'm satisfied with it, as long as I stay away from the hilly country.
Max TV towing capacity: 9700
Trailer dry weight: 7150. Loaded: 8650
Max tongue weight with WDH(Equilizer 4 point): 1100

You might check under towing and TV section here you will find alot of chatter about towing a 5er with a 1/2 ton truck some good some bad. Just keep A close eye on weights. good luck.

If I'm not mistaken, the XLite 24RLS is a travel trailer with a GVWR of 7,200# and a tongue weight of 680#.

Depending on the specifics of Fishawks' GMC 1500, it may well be a very good match. I peeked at GMC's website for specs, and they are all over the place depending on engine, body style, bed length, rear axle gearing, etc.

I would not have hesitated to tow a trailer like that with my '98 Dodge Ram 1500 King Cab, short bed, 5.2 L V-8. It's about as large as I would pushed the 1500, but it would work pretty well. The '98 5.2 was a bit lacking in power in the mountains. The 5.9 would have been a better choice all around.

As I understand it you are looking at the Lite Weight Cougar 24RLS travel trailer. I just checked the Keystone site and looked at the weights and length specs. I think you should be OK with a WDH, but as the previous poster recommended, just pay close attention to the weights as loaded on both the truck and the trailer. Until a few months ago we towed a 2010 Bullet 278RLS which was a little lighter but a little longer than this model with a Chevy half ton and it towed well. We currently have a Cougar which we tow with a 3/4 ton. We really liked the Bullet and we really like the Cougar. There is a lot of information on towing on this forum.

Thanks for the info!!
I also have a GMC Sierra HD (2008) 1500
5.3 & 3.73 w/ tow package
However, GM tells me that max tow weight is 7700
That's fine for the 24RLS but much less tow weight than your 1500 (9700)
I wonder why the weight discrepancy in our two Sierra 1500?

I have the extended cab version with a 6 speed tranny(same motor and rear end). A crew cab, longer bed, or different tranny(5 speed) will affect your max towing capacity. I found my towing capacities on a chart in my owners manual (also kept my window sticker with all this info).

Thanks Michol
During my rv search, I quickly became wary of some RV salesmen
telling me that my 1/2 ton truck would "easily" tow this weight or that weight
so I contacted GMC with my vin and sticker info

They told me that the invoice info was wrong , the RV salesmen were wrong and gave me the correct tow capacity
of my truck
