In Command update

Hi all. Just wondering if I should update my In Command system or should I leave a working system as is. Have had mostly good luck updating other items with software/firmware but have also had a few that I regretted updating. Thanks to the experts ahead of time.

I've often considered this as well for our trailer. So far, I've not updated I figured I would wait until I have a problem and the only troubleshooting step remaining is to apply the update.

If it Ain't broke, don't fix it.....

As "tempermental" as the InCommand system has been and as many "issues and fixes" that have been released, I'd suggest that if your system is "working as it should" and "doing what you want it to do" then leave it alone and enjoy one of the few systems that is working without issues.....

Seems like consensus is to leave it alone. So far everything in the trailer is working well so I will not mess with it. Trailer has had only very minor issues that were very easy to fix. Did put a five inch extension on the waste outlet yesterday and figured I would paint the gray tank handle gray so I unscrewed it. Only had a turn and a half left before it came off. Black handle was almost as bad. Painted the handle, tightened both to their shafts and pulled the valves open a bit, held them with pliers and screwed them on tight. Now neither will be awol down the road.

My problem with incomman is reading the tanks. It is sporadic at best. I have to say I really dislike not knowing the levels of my tanks. I have a 2019 Cougar. Has anyone found a fix or a way to replace this junk?

I suspect the problem with your tank readings is the sensors in the tanks, and not the iN-Command system. It's just reporting the information presented to it from the sensors.

It's difficult to keep the tank sensors clean, but it can be done. You will hear two differing views on this: Those that say you can keep them clean, and those that say it's not worth the effort.

If you are referring to iN.Command as "this junk" your options are 1) learn to live with it, 2) rewire your entire trailer, or 3) trade your trailer for one without the system. If you are referring to the tank level measurement system, welcome to the world of RV's - these things rarely work properly - there is massive forum fodder on this subject.

Attached is the trouble shooting guide for my iN.Command system. [I had to split this file into two pieces "...a" and "...b" due to file size restrictions on the forum.] Note on page 5 that the tank monitoring system is based on electrical resistance. The tank readings are pins 1-8; measure voltage between each pin and pin #10. Due to the small voltages involved, you will probably need to remove each wire - measuring each wire while connected creates a parallel measurement path between iN.Command and your meter - likely to result in incorrect readings. In the right hand column, the correct voltage reading is shown for each tank condition.

You can easily access these pins by removing the two large hand nuts and removing the cover of the iN.Command module (it is commonly in the pass through storage area). By checking these, at least you will be able to determine which piece of equipment is the problem.

Another item to check if the water, gray, black tanks are reading correctly is what resistance values for each tank sensor are loaded into the floor plan... If incorrect values are entered the tanks will never read correctly

Firmware updates can often create more problems then they are worth... up to and including a "bricked" BCM... If the system is working properly I would not update the firmware...

I'm the second owner of our RV and didn't get any manuals on the InCommand. I can't tell what model I have, but I can say the BCM is horizontal rather than vertical like the one on the cover of this manual. Probably because of that, it has only 1 rather than 2 knobs for the protective cover.

Do you or anyone else have the install or user or troubleshooting manuals for mine?

Note the Exclamation Point in the lower right hand corner of the display screen. Any idea what that represents?

I've attached a few pics in case that helps someone identify it.

I think your's is the newest version. In the last picture that shows your controller, note the "GC" logo, indicating Global Connect. Check out the ASA website at: https://in-command.net/ You should be able to to get documentation and manuals from their on-line system. They have been very helpful on the phone as well.

Related and not related.

I updated the system yesterday 8/3/2020 because I was hoping that maybe it would solve the AC controller issue when sensors read over 100 degrees.

Outside of it not fixing this issue, I saw no downside to updating, nor any VISUAL upside.

If anyone happens on this thread looking for AC answers for the over 100 degrees bug: I FOUND A WORK AROUND.

Hold an ice pack to a sensor unit until it reads below 100 degrees, that AC unit will kick on. Rinse and repeat with all of the sensors. I was able to get all 3 units running yesterday in 114 degree heat using my generator with this method.

How about a can of Freeze Spray? These are about $8 and you can just throw it in a drawer until needed.

It was that recommendation From the troubleshooting manual that led to my discovery of the work around above.
